Just shot in my yard. Probably the first time in about 5 days. I have been shooting all season. Bow has been on every time. I have my sight (IQ retina sight) marked so I know if anything gets bumped. Its been dead on for over a month since I tuned it. But today when I shot, I was 8" high. Everything was tight and my sight hadn't moved. 10,20,30 yards, all 8" high and I was shooting consistently. WTF happened?! This is making me real nervous. I have the sights on now so its shooting dead on by why would it all of a sudden be 8" high when nothing on my sight moved? Is it possible my D loop moved? certainly doesn't look like it. Please give me suggestions because even though its on, I am not confident that it wont be off again for whatever reason.
yes, it has been somewhere hot. It has been hanging up in my room right over the heater. Would that really throw it off by 8" though? Rest hasn't moved, that is marked too. And No peep because of the retina lock.
I wouldn't imagine that would cause that large of an adjustment, anything is possible thou I suppose. Are you grouping as well as you used to, just 8" high?
Not conclusive, but if you said everything else stayed the same, then I'd think about the string, since out of everything, it's the most "fragile" part of the bow. Once I'm dialed in, I mark everything so I can be sure everything is the same. String stretch is the only semi-unsure thing for me. Marks on the cams help, but still.
Check your rest. My bow started shooting off all of a sudden and it was my rest. The serving string crimp started sliding making the rest not pop up all the way.
If it started shooting high then I don't think it would be the string stretching. I would think that would make it shoot low because you would lose some FPS due to the limbs relaxing. I would go straight to the peep but you say you don't have one. Whats left? the d-loop or the sight or the rest. Interested to hear more.
Anything is possible here unfortunately. I wouldn't leave your bow hanging over the heater for one. I have had this happen to me when I first started shooting and I chalked it up to inconsistent anchor points. Once I re-adjusted it though that bow shot straight for another 3 years. If you're worried about it changing again, which I was too, shoot an arrow or two before you head to the stand.
Yeah I really cannot figure it out. I am interested to look at the serving and where the drop away is tied into it. Although I don't think that would send them 8" high. I would also think the heater/string thing would make it shoot low as well but I really cannot come up with anything. Very odd problem. I let my bow sit in 50 degrees all night and shot this morning. Dead on where I left it after I re-sighted in. Guess i'll just keep shooting to make sure its there every day. One last thing. I know my D-loop is a little big of a gap. Once I pop the arrow onto the string, it can slide just a little bit between the top and bottom. I obviously shoots for the same spot each time though. Been like this for a while I believe. Is this how its supposed to be? Or should it be really tight. I would think tight but who knows.
Ideally, you have your d-loop tied on using the nocks that you are going to hunt with. It should be somewhat snug on the top and bottom but not necessarily tight. Also, if it is tied correctly, it should get tighter and tighter on the string as you use it. I doubt this is what caused 8"s of drift unless it moved considerably.
One day I was shooting and nailing down awesome groups. Next day I was shooting ten inches low and left, to where I was almost missing the target altogether. I almost started ****ing with the bow thinking something was off..but before I did I took a break...picked my bow up, went through each step of my form slowly, and took a slow steady shot with proper breathing...and bam. Dead center. It was me, not the equipment. Of course I'm not saying this is the case with you...just made me remember that day.
I am guilty of this one!! Shot my bow one day and it was spot on came out the next day shooting 6" high and was getting very frustrated then I realized I was shooting my 30 pin at 20!
Sight moved! Or... Rest moved... Or... Nocking point moved... Or... Peep moved.... Or.... Arrows got lighter. Oh yeah one more in your case. That weird little green light in you sight moved. I don't understand that thing by the way. The manufacturer recommends you sight in your bow without using the retina lock. And then adjust the retina lock. Seems like its pointless. To each their own I guess. But yeah one of those things happened.
Get your d loop tied in properly. Our nock should have no room to move at all. Nice snug fit. And I tie in nocking points in the d loop and above it. Less weight on the string then a brass nick and quieter. Also help make sure your d loop never moves. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
