my set-up:2014 Bear Attitude set at 60# and 27 in draw Cabela's stalker Xtreme 45/60 500 spine cobra release trophy ridge 3-pin sight Whisker biscuit My question is,so I'm shooting a 204.4 grain arrow, (thats just the bare shaft, not sure what 3 blazers,a standard insert, and Easton nock is). And I'm wondering If a 100 grain broadhead will penetrate deep enough? Thanks for your thoughts.
^^^ I agree. Go with the 55/70 instead. They will be more on the stiffer side which I would prefer anyways for better broadhead flight. Cut at about 28" with nock, insert, blazers, and a 100 grain head should put you right around 390 grains. You probably would be better with a 125 grain head instead for a little more FOC and a little extra added weight to get you over that 400 grains. I think with the current shafts you have your too light in my opinion and you probably would run into flight/accuracy issues.
Based on what I found out while researching my son's arrow needs I found that to hunt deer he would need a minimum of 35 pounds of draw weight and a "heavy" arrow. Meaning a minimum of 10 grains per pound of draw weight = 350 grains. Any bow with more draw weight will only serve to make the 350 arrow more adequate due to added speed. Your arrows with a 100 grain tip, Blazer vanes and standard Easton nock and insert should weigh in at around 362 grains finished weight. Add a lighted nock and you'll be up to 372. You have enough weight to hunt with. It will most likely pass through provided the shot is on target. BTW, the deer I harvested last season was taken with a 380 grain arrow.
I do agree with previous posters that your spine might be a little on the weak side and a stiffer shaft would probably be better. Especially if you go to a heavier tip.
I agree with kurveball, he hit it on the nail! Stiffen up your spine and I'd top it off with a 125gr head personally for some added FOC, but you should def be shooting a 400 spine arrow IMO Gold tip makes a great arrow and are readily available most places in a 55/75 shaft. Good luck!
Well, thats kind of a bum deal,if they're too light. These are what the guy at Cabela's set me up with. They fly very well.
