I was seeing if the rage 40ke broadheads would work for me yesterday, because I already have them. I was using a piece of white cardboard over my target, they were opening almost every time. The front of the target was having small and big holes but my dad said that they could be opening more when passing through the target. Because they would go all the way through. On the other side of the target the blades were opened but not in the same exact position as the entry holes. Which I dont think they should be. I was getting decent holes (1.5 inches). I messed up 2 O-Rings, but thats ok I have more. I was hitting consistantly though. I just need to get more practice tips for them so that I can broadhead tune my bow. And I also need to paper tune. Thanks for all the help guys. But I am almost wanting just to go with a muzzy mx-3, just so I know they will open. What do yall think? Go with a muzzy mx-3 100 grain, or stick with the rages?

I'll let someone else more familiar with those BH's comment but I would strongly advise you to use a fixed head. I personally don't think you have enough KE to use a mechanical on a live animal. I would suggest a cut on contact fixed blade.

You owe it to that animal to use a BH that will give you the best chance of a quick humane kill.

I agree with Brad on the lack of KE for the rage BH and when you throw in an untuned bow and arrow it is even worse.

When BH tuning you do not use a mechanical. Use a fixed blade BH.

Yea, Im kinda wanting to get muzzys anyways. I think they will be better for me right now. I mean Id rather know im gonna get a 1.25 inch cut every time than having a 1.5 inch cut sometimes. I think what I will do it get the mx-3 100 grain. which are $22. Shoot the regular hunting blades but get a broadhead sharpener before I hunt. I heard the muzzy practice blades are a little heavier and they also tear up a target more.

Don't sharpen the blades after you practice with them. Replace them.

    I only shoot 41 lbs. I'm using easton 500's. I use 125 grain 3 blade muzzy heads.

Fix blade all the way it will be more humane and you dont have to try and yor wont have to worry so much about if the rages will open

yea, i mean. I would like to keep the rage if I know they will work everytime. I mean I think I will just do another opening test with the rages. I dont mind buying new O-rings if They are opening good. If not I will get the mx-3 muzzys.

It's not a matter if they open or not. They will open. The question will there be enough energy to push the BH through the aninmal once the energy has been lost required to open the BH. That is why I am suggestion a COC fixed head.

what do you mean push through the animal? The whole animal or are you talking about only getting it in like 4 inches and not hitting much?

would you want an arrow only to penetrate a deer 4 inches? or would u want an arrow to push all the way through a deer on a clean broadside shot

Hey Jr don't by into all the rage hype!! they are fine broad heads I'm not saying they are not but....... I believe in the KISS method of study ....KEEP IT SIMPLE STUPID. moving parts fail. not if but when. sooo cut on contact ....
nothing I mean nothing to fail. The great ppl of this country were killing animals with stone broad heads 100 years ago guess what they were cut on contact. Don't listen to Joe blow at the pro shop he is trying to sell stuff. Use your head it works I promise.
