What am I doing wrong? Im fine with shots down to around 20" but the deeper ones no so much. 2-3 feet down tears me up. Im still aiming about the same low. Do I need to aim lower for deeper,,,Rookie with questions

I have always heard that the deeper the fish is, the lower you have to aim. I have never really had to shoot a fish in real deep water though, so don't take my word for it :D

Yep, the deeper they are the lower you aim. My water is usually so muddy I only see them when their fins are sticking out of the water.

You should try shooting zigzagging 3lb carp in 4ft+ deeper water from a moving boat. Very humbling. :) We use each other as spotters so we tell each other if the shot was too high or too low. In deep water most all misses are because you didn't aim low enough. Like posted above, the deeper the fish, the lower you have to aim.

I've heard aim 6 inches low for every foot of water he's in.

Is your arrow still traveling fast enough to penetrate him if he's four feet deep? :)

Greg, yep I believe so. I have taken many shots that missed and stuck real good in the bottom 4-5' down.

Whenever you're bowfishing and you miss (and it's not a left or right issue), aim lower!

Another thing i noticed while bowfishing here in NY. Crystal clear water. I had to up my draw weight so the arrow did not slow down and plane in the water. I have hit fish as deep as 6' with a regular fiberglass arrow. 10' with a aluminium arrow with a 18" steel rod in the front of it. Try to up your bow weight and aim lower. Hope this helps. Just an fyi, i was drawing almost 70 lbs on an old marten lynx bow.

Got ya. If you feel like building your own arrows u can use the aluminum with the epoxied steel rod in the end.

Also, Are you tied to the back of the arrow or are you using the string slide that come on the arrow? I found they the slide can make the arrow plain a little sooner than needed.

here in Illinois we dont have to shot them in the water 6" to 4' in the water. THey jump out of the water into the boat. If you are bored take a look on youtube for Redneck fishing Tournament in Bath IL. THis was hosted I think 2 weeks ago. Its so funny and a lot of people shoot them while they are jumping out of the water
