Anyone in here ride four wheelers? I know a whole lot of people that use theirs hunting. I've been riding a Suzuki Vinson 500 for the best 2 years or so. I'm thinking about changing to a Sportsman XP. My father in law just bought a 700 Grizzly and its a nice machine. I noticed the XP specs seems to be higher than anything else...
Luckily I don't need one. If I do I use my dad's '98 Grizzly 600, my uncle's '10 Grizzly 500 or my brother's '08 BRP Outlander 800HO (that thing is crazy!). But I primarily use my no-wheeler
Just a little ole Honda Recon 250 electric shift. I really dont want one the size of a truck. This one gets around through the woods really easy cause of its size and has hauled out many Deer,
'08 650H1 Arctic Cat... It's not really set-up for hunting though, more trail blazing and mudding. It's loud and snorkeled.:D
I had an '88 kawasakit tecate with a race built engine for years I just got rid of. Can't use it for hunting but you did ask about 4 wheelers. I've actually never been in a situation that I needed one.
05 Suzuki King Quad 700, thing putts along great and has a ton of power when needed. I also really like the locker it comes with. Wish it was a little more quiet, but that would probably go for any quad.
I have a Polaris 500 HO. Great machine to me. I ride ....not often enough and plow snow with it all winter. I belong to a club that has a lot of trails in the foothills of the Adirondacks. I'm a casual...take a ride kind of guy. I don't go crazy trying to see how far I can push the envelope.
I have three polaris atv's and have lots of problems with gear boxes and brakes on all of them, on the 4x4 i have broken all the chains and even set the hand brake on a hill and came back and the bike had rolled down the hill. two fuel pumps I cant tell you how many times i have had to walk home over this bike.seems that if you ride the bike 8 hrs plain on working on it for 1 hr. the other bike is a 250 two stroke and the gear box is bad on it also, both bikes go thru a drive belt once a year. Think my next bike will be a 6 cly jeep with a/c
How old are they and do you do your own work. Installing the drive belt is probably not the best thing for a shade tree mechanic to be doing. I've had mine since 2007. I did burn up a winch this year but I plowed a lot of snow and it really gets a work out. It wasn't totally shot but was iffy so I just had the guy put a new one on as it comes with new cable and all the switches, rollers and coupler.
I've done just about everything and more to my 06 Vinson. It's bulletproof. I can't stress enough that I use that thing HARD. After everything, I'd be real pressed to look elsewhere for a new one. The only non Suzuki QUAD, that I'd give serious inquiry to would be the Grizzly 550. My toy is a Polaris Ranger or a compact tractor though.
I noticed there was a lot of responses of Vinson owners. I myself, am a proud Vinson owner. Best damn ATV I've ever had without question. Loads of power for a 4x4, the only thing I would trade is the suspension. I'd love to have IRS. The only other downfall is that mine has gears, but I guess that's mainly a preference. My gears skip sometimes. I'm never gonna sale or trade my Vinson, but the next one I get will without a doubt be the next 550 Sportsman XP. The specs on that thing are phenomenal. Sportsman and Outlanders IMO are top of the line right now. Just my .02
I've got an old 1995 Honda 300. It is a great little machine for it's size. Boss bought it new for the farm in 95 and then gave it to me last year when he finally updated. It has had the crap pounded out of it and is still going. Tough little machine. Wish it had an hour meter or odometer cause I would love to know how many hours/miles are on it. It is a rough riding SOB though !!!! Tim
The old Honda Fortrax 300's are probably the toughest ATVs ever built. My buddy used to ride one when we were younger. I always thought military tanks were the toughest things on wheels....until I saw that Fortrax. :D
:D We loved it for chasing black birds in the sunflower fields with shotguns. Not the safest thing in the world to be doing but it sure was a blast ( pun intended ) !!!!!! Tim
what makes you think i am a shadetree mech ? bikes are 94-95 chain drive models. there is not much i cant work on i have 30 + years in the trade.
