what exactly qualifies a person as a "whitetail expert" ??? i was watching a bunch of hunting shows as i'm sure many people here do. i like others here watch alot of hunting videos, and read alot also. basically anyhting to do with nature/hunting/hunting gear/weapons i can't get enough. this brings me to my ? which probly doesn't have an answer, but was curious as to what some of you thought. ? what qualifies a person to receive the label "whitetail expert"? is it a certain amount of kills? is it a certain amount of years? is it killing big deer often? is it hunting many different locations? is it taking deer with different weapons?is it having your own show?is it having a story or article you wrote published?is it being able to age deer, score them, feild dress them? i mean how does someone get that label, i don't remember ever seen any whitetail courses in school. is there some school that i don't know about somewhere that you can graduate with the title? i just find it interesting that one show will say .... today we're here hunting big bucks with this ..... guy, or avid hunter, or "whitetail expert" just wondering what you guys and gals think?
Quality of knowledge about deer and deer behavior. I consider John Eberhart and Dan Infalt to be whitetail experts, to name two.
From what I have experianced most guys are an expert in their own minds. These guys are always more than willing to let you know as well.
Bobby Worthington...and about 5 or 6 guys from this site. Shed, Greg Mo, GregH, JM Buckhunter, Gri22ly, Duke, Buckeye....
well that's my point. isn't an opinion thing. to my cousins and some others i'm an "expert", but to most people i'm just a regular hunter. any hunter who knows everything is a liar, i learn new things all the time, whether it's watching shows, reading, scouting, or hunting. i just think it's sort of strange that some guys get the label "whitetail expert"
honestly, most guys that you see on TV are experts..they didn't get to where they are soley on personality...they just wanted badly and found a way to do it...Stan potts, Greg Miller, Tom Miranda, etc...they are all great hunters....sure they hunt outfitters now and do a lot less footwork and thinking than they used too, but they still have to hunt. Now, you take a guy like Todd Prignitz from WKP, and you have one hell of a bowhunter...that guy flat out lives for hunting big mature whitetails...he passes on 140's like I take a piss...he hunts NO outfitters, private and public land..Bobby Worthington has to be in the top 3 whitetail gurus of the world....he killed a 180 on public land in Tenn!!!! for God sakes!
