Shot at a buck last night, I couldnt find blood or my arrow. Went back out to look this morning and I found my arrow which had decent blood only on the fletching. Granted, it has been raining for a few hours now. After finding the arrow I searched for a few hours and I couldnt find anything. A few people have suggested that I may have hit above the spine or just a clean muscle shot and the deer will live. But the blood looks pretty dark. Opinions?
Where did you hit the deer? (you must know unless you eyes were closed.) How did it act after the shot? how long did you wait until getting down and looking? Hair? length, color? Does the arrow smell?
I couldnt really see where the deer was hit, if that was the case this would be much easier. As I shot I was behind a Y extension limb off the tree. The deer ran hard, made a sharp turn and looked weak on the turn but still ran hard. He made a C shape and ended up a few hundred yards infront of my tree stand, which is the last place I saw him. The hair was probably an inch long, and the arrow does not smell. A few people I have talked to have suggested that I hit the deer high, in the layer of fat above the spine. I have a slow motion video of the shot, however with the shot you cannot see the arrow.
I'd say you hit high in noans land or.really low like brisket. Either case the buck will probably live. Tyler Rector BHOD prostaff
I was able to see the deer, of course. But I was standing at a weird angle in the tree stand. With my hips bladed away from the shot. As I shot the top of my bow came down and blocked my sight of where the arrow hit.
There is not enough info to go on, so it's hard to speculate on where you hit. The blood looks red to me, but that could mean anything. Blood on the fletchings is a positive sign. How far off did you find the arrow.
Okay, Well the video didn't help me much because I couldn't see anything. But I will tell you that...the rain, coupled with a questionable shot means unlikely to recover the deer. If you need to think he survived then you can think that, but there really is no way to know for sure unless you find him or catch him on trail camera later on.
