I planted some antler kings no sweat. I basically raked away everything with a metal rake. Threw seed down. And raked everything in the best i could. Do you guys think it will come up/attract deer? Also my ph was a 6.5
Forgot to put in there that i also sprayed down antler kings plot max before i put down the seed. I also have there jolt liquid fertilizer to spray on the plants but it says to wait till there at least 3 inches
The key with a shot plot or baiting is putting it where they like to travel or stop by anyway. That's the greatest determiner of success imo.
Yeah don't let the deer route thing be a factor. They have noses and will find it if they're in the area. Trust me I've seen it first hand. The lack of sunlight might be your only issue but can't tell cause the picture only shows that part of the day. I've used my climber and a pole saw to trim branches to let more light in on one of my plots. Or just drop a few trees with a chainsaw works to. Either way if it turns into a honey hole it's all worth the work in the long run. Trial and error is the name of this game!
I am not sure but I believe clover, rape and such like at least 4 hrs of sun a day. As your only option is chainsaw work for canopy. What I would do is A. Set a camera to see how much they use it B. Test your soil C. Add anything you can to make it perfect
Best of luck to you! I've had pretty good success as far as getting a plot to grow in that much shade (depends what you plant) but I think you'll be ok. Tree trimming/removal can always be done in the coming years.
This. Unfortunately I tried the same thing years ago. I got enough partial sun for germination but that was it. You must have direct sunlight and as close to 6 hours of it as possible. Really, it depends on how dedicated to the plot you are. Your only chance honestly, is to take a chainsaw and open up the canopy by falling some trees. If it was me, I would save the money/time and use that time to scout more. If you can bait in your state, do that prior to season for inventory purposes Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
According to Antler King you should be good with shade. Some oftour pics show minimal sun light. Obviously the moe light the better, but you are following AK: NO SWEAT PLOT MIX is an excellent hunt plot for minimum or no till areas, such as logging roads, shady locations, or areas where you cannot use equipment. NO SWEAT contains the ideal mix of perennial and annual seeds, which have been chosen because they are shade tolerant, easy to establish, fast growing, pH tolerant and deer love them! I would add a licking branch and mock scrape and put a camera on it. Just be mindful of the normal wind patterns for greatest success. Sent from my iPad using Bowhunting.com Forums
