What do you use to lure deer into a cam for pics?

Two yrs ago I had great luck with trace mineral from my local feed store, but was just curious this yr and thought I'd try the stump lick molasses.

Anyone use a trophy rock or any of those other commercial lures out there?

I've tried the trophy rock with some success but my best and most picks came from deer corn with some C'mere Deer mixed in with it. I just pour it on the ground. It seems as though the bucks don't eat it from a feeder like they do on the ground.

Scouting !! Find a good trail, funnel, field corner or road/fence/back yard/stream crossing and have at it.

Fields are tough..There have been times that I cared not to venture into the woodlot the deer were coming to the feild from, or, in one case the deer were coming from a large briar/brush field with nowhere to put a camera w/o errected a post. So, I hung the cam on the fence around the field.

I placed the cam in the best spot to get some photos, but with 6 large bucks frequenting this field, I had to them into the cameras range.

So, to get the bucks infront of the cam I used a mixture of corn, vanilla extract, salt, mineral block, deer feed and a crap load of C'mere deer. I selected a spot in the bean field and set it all up...I would refreshen the spot once per week for the entire spring and summer and into the early bow season, as this area was a common pot for people working the farm during the day on foot and machine, so scent was a non-issue.

It worked..I got thousands of photos.

Cmere' Deer is awesome...i put it all over the ground..due to the fact there was corn on each side of this woods...even open some corn stalks up and broke them around and mixed it in around my trail camera....check the camera in a week..had deer all week on that camera...awesome combo try it..

I try to put them on natural food sources, usually corn. I have tried some apple mineral licks before, but since the ban of baiting in Michigan I have just been using natural sources.

Seems as if a corn and molasses mix works best around here...Ive tried others but they always come to this.

deer cain has worked extremly well for me. What ever kind you buy. liquid, block or powder. All works great. Liquid will give you immediate resaults, the block and powder takes a while, but once it gets into the ground the deer will get all over it!

I found it to be very interesting that early season the deer rather have a acorn flavored salt lick instead of berry scented minerals. Then as the end of july and august approached they started to hit the minerals very hard. I had great success with those two lures. I just hope that now I pulled the minerals out some of those deer stay.

I wouldn't worry about removing them out of the woods, those minerals leak into the soil. I have a spot where we put out a block last year for only 3 weeks and then removed it because we were going to be hunting near that spot. That spot was hit hard all year long this spring and summer and we got some of our best pics from that spot. 3 weeks! Early spring (March) get out there and put it back in the same spot and that will replenish it. Besides, they pretty much stop hitting the mineral this time of year..if you want to keep them coming pour some corn and watch it disappear.

I use a corn grain mixture brings them bucks right in,salt licks to, spread it out cause if you just put it in one spot theyll eat it all in a matter of couple of days an then no deer action.

Nothing against any of the commercial products, i'm sure they work great. I'm just cheap. I generally use straight rice bran, Its cheap and other animals like racoons and squirrels don't eat it up like they do corn. It does'nt have a strong smell to the human nose but the deer always find it fast.

I agree. I have had good luck with Black Magic the past two years. My problem is that the bucks stop hitting it around September. The does keep on it. I like minerals because other critters don't bother with it. It is important to put it on a good trail or convergence of trails.

I picked up some crab apples from a tree on our farm in front of some cams. The does hoovered those things down in 24 hours. Coons got in on the action. I had about 400 pictures in 24 hours of does eating apples. Doh!

I don't use anything for my trail cams but my brother uses mineral blocks of some sort.
