What do you say to guys that give you a hard time for using a specific brand or equipment? I only ask because one of my buddies loves giving me a hard time for shooting a PSE (hes a huige Hoyt freak). Just the other day, i finally got sick of him talking nonsense and decided to make a friendly wager. Bow vs Bow. We had our friend, who runs the shop, put both bows thru the paces. My PSE Brute vs his Hoyt Carbon Element (yea... long shot i know lol). Obviously his was much lighter then mine, so he had that. Both bows were drawing just about 70lbs (mine was at 70. something and his was at 68. something)and had a 29" draw length. Surprisingly, i won the FPS battle shooting 308 and his at 292 (best read out of 3 arrows). Brian, our friend, than took them to the range. at 25 yds, he shot 3 arrows with each bow. He shot just over a 2 1/2" group with mine and just under a 3" group with his. Basically, Brian said based on fps and accuracy for the price range of each bow, i won. However, he would personally still take the Element over mine because of smoothness and quietness of the Hoyt. The fact that my little ole PSE can hang with his big bad Hoyt put a smile on my face. Yes, he does have the nicer bow and the accuracy test we did isnt really fair because its all variable to human error but it was enough to shut him up... for now.
I used to shoot with a couple of fellas and we all loved talking smack about each others equipment, but it was all in great fun. I had a High Country Excalibur...very accurate, but slow with my short DL. Dave had an old Browning...very fast, but sounded like a 22 rifle. Steve had a new Hoyt ( Ultra Tech, I think). Naturally, Steve talked the most smack, but we all took turns. When Dave shot, we would say stuff like "all the deer in three counties just jumped the string. If Steve missed the. Mark we say " I guess even $700 won't make you a better shot. When I shot they would say "nice shot, but the season will be over before the arrow reaches the target. Anyway, it was all in fun...what really matters is hitting your mark and enjoying what you shoot.
I say screw'em....I don't care what others think of my choice in equipment. Todays bows are all pretty good so it's a matter of personal preference. SOme are better in specific areas than others and those specific areas may change in priority between hunters. Most are capable of shooting tighter groups than needed to kill deer out to 40 yards plus.
PSE (Pull Shoot Explode) lol my buddy shoots PSE and I really don't care either way as long as my buddy/buddies are shooting archery. If there wasn't more than one company out there, there would be none at all IMO. Just like Ford/Chevy, Apple/Android there will always be competition out there so might as well play along with the fun!
I have 2 good buddys that shoot new PSE's and a bunch that shoot Mathews. It is a continuous battle! But a great time. Just out shoot them and they will shutup I promise.
it was definitely all in good fun but i know a lot of guys that take it too far and really get into brand names. Im just going to have to do like Heckler said and put down a big buck.
Bottom line it is what you like. Like the Chevy vs Ford vs Dodge all have great attributes but its what you like. Find something he really likes and start hammering on it. A dose of his own medicine may be good.
Tell them to **** off. Seriously, if a guy is insecure enough to bash on your gear then obviously he has more money than brains. Sent from my ADR6350 using Tapatalk 2
embrace what you have and that usually shuts people up because they dont know what to do with the responce
My cousin use to give me a hard time Bout having a mission and not a Mathews. I started shooting at his arrows, after I broke a couple of his arrows he shut up.
