I was curious to see what most people use for scents in their mock scrapes in late october. What brand and how much. Also how far away do you set up your trail camera from the scrape? How high off the ground do you hang/put the trail camera too, BTW I know everyones trail camera might have different features but I'm just looking for general feedback. Thanks

Just been undoing my belt and letting it go, been working good actually. Every once in a while I will use tinks products. Set the camera at just above waste height and about 10 yards away

I do the same as most of the other posters, I produce my own scent.

I drink a lot of water before I go out and all scrapes are served straight from the tap....no bottles here.

I saw all of your mock scrape pics and they are awesome. This gives me a better idea of how I should set mine up. Thanks

I piddle in the scrapes, or use Tinks stuff, or my two dogs have been known to piss in them too when I am out and about. My two and a half year old boy hasnt quite got the potty training thing down, but you bet he will be wizzz'n next year outside.

I got this a few years ago
They hit it good, dirt flys and every thing, very useful, just take in a spray bottle and freshen up every time
I use Distilled Water .98 cents a gallon , a gallon of cheap Great Value Ammonia $1.69 , 16oz of Spice Suppreme Imitation Vanilla $1.49
i use imatation vanilla all season , here is something else for ya , i mix this up in a 1/2 gallon jug because it costs dang near nothing to make its my scrape mix 55oz of water 5oz of amonia 3oz of imitation vanilla , There is a company that makes this mix and sells it for $15.00 for 4oz ......lol....i actually bought a bottle to use it to test my mix to it and then took it back and got my money back .........mix it up and shake it up once a day for a week if you can then put it in a spray bottle and spray in mock scrapes and real scrapes , even on the licking branches . Just make sure you shake it for a few days to keep it mixed.

For some reason my peepee scared them off. Must be little to manly. Lol no for real I had pics of a 8 point working a scrape and I read all this about people peeing in scrapes so I'd see if it works for me. Well it didn't. I haven't seen anything for over a week at that scrape.

Not likely the pee scared it off. If you got your scent(besides the pee) all over the area/spot and especially on the licking branch that will throw them off...also if the rut is on and he's got a hot doe and/or is finding them somewhere else then he has no reason to show back up till he's lonely again. Another thing is if he got spooked by the cam...sometimes they don't notice the cam the first few visits...some just don't care and then there are those bucks that will not step in front of the cam again once they see the flash(red blob IR or white flash).

If you already have a good active scrape then there is also no reason to freshen it yourself unless for hunting over it where fresh estrous/doe urine is the ticket IMO. For mock scrapes, mee-pee is almost all that I use to get them started and if I have some then I use Gland-u-lure(only because this is all I can find on the shelves up here) or pre-orbital gland lure(works great, no doubt - if I can find it) on the branches.

I'll put a cam on a couple starting at the end of July...these scrapes are/were mock scrapes that turned into 'community' scrapes a few years ago(partly due to manipulation of the environment, as food plots and timber harvest). I'll keep freshening with mee-pee every card check until velvet starts coming off and the bucks start licking. Usually for the summer these end up only being visited in the dark however and they also get a lot of yotes and fox checking in. For hunting areas during season I'll do a mock scrape anytime I plan to be in that vicinity for a couple days(this often out by my camp) and bucks definitely check them out to try to find the interloper/new guy.
