Family member shoots a deer they do not have a tag for? Second tag in MI is restricted, on a deer drive a buck was shot that did not meet the restriction. I just walked away and shook my head, my Dad had the only legal tag, but he did not shoot it, so he would not tag it(made me proud to be his son).

I am not sure what happen, but this is the main reason deer drives are not a good idea with restricted tags IMO.

Yes another 1.5 went down today, offically a 5 point, unoffically a 7 point:cool: Good news is I did not have this guy on camera.

I dont let anyone who hunts with us break the law, plain and simple. The game wardens on speed dial.

People do that all the time in IL.

Yes, it is against the law, here. As far as I'm concerned. A tag is a tag.

It was not on purpose, and I was not on the drive. I was just called in because I am the only one who reads the rule book.

4 points on a side and at least 1'' long. Not even .25 of an inch on two of them, but a big body SOB, and no pictures were taken, LOL

You cant control others actions. Maybe try and talk about the situation before it arises so that things can be taken care of legally.

Most of the hunters i associate with are older then me and good law abiding citizens. Dont take my comment too harshly, there's always situations where things are "okay" in my eyes...

Shooting a deer with a gun during the archery season is not...
Shooting more then your limit and having other people tag them is not...

Do i know of people who do this? The latter, yes. Do i condone it? No. If it happens on MY property, im making the call.

Thats the beauty of being Caleb Siman, if i want (like i did this season so far) i can hunt the whole season without leaving my family property.

    100 acres exclusive,
    100 more semi exclusive

Now if i was hunting their property, and something went down, thats when id have to bite my tongue most likely. Ill worry about that day when it comes.

I've encountered that type of thing a few times during gun seasons in the past. Usually it involves driving deer and somebody shooting a deer and somebody else taging it. "Party Hunting" is illegal in Ohio and these guys understand that, they are just after the meat. If its not my property, and they are meat hunting and every deer is getting tagged, I dont have a problem with it.

What gets me is the guys who knowingly or purposely shoot a deer they dont have a tag for.
I know some guys that have shot a buck when all they had was an anterless tag. Then they are asking for others either sex tag.
I have told them -if you ask for mine you are SOL

unfortuantly, I deal with this to on a family side. No involvement from myself, but it pisses me off something fierce.

When PA enacted ARs I stumbled on to a few deer sans antlers rotting in the woods. If the deer will feed your relative, and not go to waste, I give it a pass. Is it right, no, but it would have been worse to leave it lay because he didn't have the right tag. I'd bite the bullet for family. Tell me if you're thinking differently Germ?

It's a rough deal Germ. I guess I fall somewhere along the line of "intent." Did he intend to shoot this buck illegally? If he knew that it wouldn't make the cut and still shot, then I got a problem. I am not sure I could call it in on the first offense, even still. I think it's only fair to them and yourself that you voice your opinion either way and in a way fitting.

Not pointed at your family Germ

Deer drives are very productive but damn, know what your shooting at!!!!!!!!! This Is why I don't care for deer drives In my area being most around here don't know and don't care what they are shooting at when they have a gun In their hand. This Is a big reason why gun hunters get a bad rap.

Hell man, I quite going to rifle camp because a couple of the guys I grew up with would drag one in opening morning with their eyes glazed over and drawed up like raisins.
