What do you do to cover your scent? I want to hang all my clothes outside but they will walk off and then there is the thing of putting on cold clothes. I use a scent eliminator spray but no cover scent. I try to use no scent soap and control my scent but it is hard to control it between storage and driving and such.
Go and get yourself a fabric closet as Walmart or other store. They come with metal tubing framing and they zipper shut. While they dont completely seal up air tight, everything is hanging, not folded, which is better than being folded. Wash your gear in baking soda and scent free soap. Once dry, hang them in the little fabric closet. Cut the top off of a box or 2 of baking soda, and place the box(es) in the bottom of the closet to help absorb and foreign odors. For like $30, you can go and grab a Tinks carbon bag(the newer ones are much bigger and zipper shut). Keep the bag in the bottom of the closet, when you're going to head out for a hunt, throw the gear you're going to wear in the carbon bag and your boots into a rubber maid container and head out. I like the carbon bags because they take up less room than a rubber storage container. This way, everything is stored as scent free as possible during your travels. If you want to take it the next level, for $40, you can buy a small ozone filter and place it in the closet. Every couple of days, run it for 30-45 mins to rid the closet of any odor that may have made its way in.
Wash my self in no scent Dove soap. Wash my clothes in baking soda then hang dry them outside. Enter the woods.
my father in law does the thing with the wreaths and such. he just goes out to where he hunts(prior to the season) and gathers up a buch of leaves, pine needles, branches and dirt and it all goes into the tote with his hunting clothes. leaves it there until the night before the opener, hangs them on his front porch. in the morning he puts them on and walks out back. he has about 80 or 90 acres behind his house, that he didnt tell me about till this year by the way, that he hunts. or he drives about 2 miles down the road, and his parents have about 300 acres, that i knew about.
I wash with no scent soap, wash my clothes with no scent soap and baking soda and store them in bins with a lot of baking soda. Put them on in the parking lot where I am hunting and take them off and put them back in the bins (except for the layer touching my skin) when I get back.
when it comes down to it theres not alot you can do to control your human scent. the best thing to do imho is keep the wind in your face.
Wind. Nothing made will mask your scent completely from a deer. Some practices and products will diminish your scent, but nothing will eliminate it.
Wash everything in baking soda these days, hang clothes outside and let them stay aired out, play the wind the best I can, spray down with Vanishing hunter while on bowstand. I do wear scent lok lined garmets as well. Really watch my enterance and exit routes and still will never be scent free but I have a lot of critters walk by my stands downwind that don't blow out or freak usually giving me a shot opportunity.
