I know this is the bow hunting section but I figured some of you guys would like to see something not so common. During the winter there is a 16 day season for sturgeon spearing in Wisconsin. My family has been doing it since 1955 with what I would consider pretty good luck. Here are some pics and I will post some more when I get out of the shack!! Enjoy!!!! Take stands down. Trim limbs that need trimming. Cut wood for the stove, work on equipment, etc. There is plenty to do.

Ice fish and then ice fish some more right now.

Come spring/summer I will hit the open water for walleyes and prep for the season.

That sturgeon spearing looks like fun. My main activity in the off season is my cameras.

I usually turn into a hermit mid winter (I hate this time of year)
    When March rolls around:

    Shed Hunt
    Hike
    Fish
    Camp
    Garden
    3D Shoots

Also spend a great deal of time at one of our local lakes swimming with kids and boating all summer.

ice fishing is a little thin here in florida so we pig hunt when deer, turkey and everything else is out of season. that and get the honey do's finished up so we're clear for spring turkey and then fall deer, turkey, doves, ducks, etc, etc.

So how's the meat on those fish that you are getting? I assume it's a meaty fish as compared to a flaky fish?

The meat quality varies year to year based on the food they have. There is two main sources red worms and shad, when they eat the worms there is less fat in the meat making it taste a lot better and when they eat shad its fattier not tasting as good. We do it a few different ways smoked fillets and battered and fried both are very good. I am going to clean one tonight I'll post a few pics!
