What do you consider to be "good enough" to get mounted?

Right with. I harvest one buck per year typically. I am going to mount every buck I harvest. Now if I was hunting 3-4 states and harvesting 3-4 bucks a year I would be a bit more selective. My pocket book couldn't handle it, I'd run out of wall space faster then I already am, and lastly, my wife would divorce me. :p

100th....oh man I don't even know what number I'm at but might have to back track through the seasons trying to get a number, that would be cool to know.

The fact that you are questioning whether you should or not is enough to justify having him mounted.

You know the answer already, whether you are trying to be talked out if it or not is the only question left.

If money is the problem ATM, you can always have the Cape tanned and have it mounted at a later date, or stow it in th é freezer a few months

Oops, missed the part of already losing the cape, you can get another one no problem. I doubt you'll get anyone that says "wow, that buck looks great, but that cape doesn't match his rack"

That buck would have gone to the taxidermist in a heartbeat if I had shot him.

I might be in the minority here but I definitely would not buy another cape to mount the deer with. If it isn't the original cape to go with the horns, I wouldn't feel right putting them together. This is my personal opinion and I can understand why people would do it. It just isn't for me.

Typically for me to mount it, I want it to be bigger than my best buck. Around here, a 120" is big for where we hunt. I did shoot a 151" buck in Illinois 2 years which is by far my biggest. Probably anything over 130" would be mounted for me since that's bigger than any deer I have seen around here.

I have a 125 White-Tail Shoulder Mounted, it was my first buck. From now on, anything bigger gets a mounts. If it is smaller, it is passed. In my opinion, your past bucks and the story behind it should determine how the trophy is preserved.

For me anything over 125" gross is getting mounted. But, that doesn't mean I wont mount smaller. I regret not mounting last years buck, its by biggest bow buck so far so probably should have done it. And its all about the memory to me. Plus, age. Im hunting a 6pt that's 4.5 at least, even though he is under 125 he would be worth the money to me. And if/when I take one at my cabin on state land it will also be mounted because of its meaning to me.

I will need to find a cape if I want to get it mounted. Which is not as easy as people think.

Your Taxi should have access to one, or know how to get you one.

If I shoot a buck these days, its getting mounted. No reason for me to shoot a buck if he isn't enough of a trophy to spend money on to put him on the wall. If I want meat I'll go out and shoot a doe. As of now, I would say a buck has to be a minimum of 140" and a minimum of 4.5 years old for me to shoot.

The one I took it to, he doesn't do a lot of taxi work so idk how easily he can get one. Were calling around but still can't find one. If I would have taken it to the expensive world class taxi he could have found a cape easily.

140ish gets it mounted for me. Over 120 gets a Euro. Special story about an animal or long history would do it too.

In the end man its all up to you. No one else should be able to make that call for you. I always go with my gut. If you didn't want to in the beginning I would stick to your guns. And I personally love euro mounts, they look great in any room and still have all those memories going after him.

Any more for me, it'll take a B&C animal or a species I've always coveted like a Mtn Goat or Dall Sheep...

In the past couple years I've killed a whitetail, mule deer, antelope, caribou, and elk... Did skulls with all of them. I plan on hunting for far too long and killing far too many animals to mount all of them. It's about the journey, memories, and photos for me. The antlers are almost a hassle/added expense after it is all over with.

150 or better for me before I even think about it. The wife's blessing is a must. I won't push it for me but I will for the kids although she has been pretty good to us with the last 5 bucks that we had mounted. Heck she paid for my best bow buck and then wanted it in the living room. Wasn't that long before that, she said she would never allow one in the living room. After we put it in there she said I could hang one more in there but he had to be a really big but pretty buck. She likes bucks that have really dark colored fur and dark racks.

1st buck... then 140 or a buck we have a lot of history with for the kids.

It would have to be something really unusual or something over 170. I just don't have much room left. With somewhere between 20 to 30 mounts already, its getting a little crowded.
