For those saying they don't believe in burning out a stand, or that you've sat the same stand all season and still killed deer. How many mature bucks (let's say 4+ years old) have you killed in that manner outside of the rut?

Well some don't feel 3 1/2 fit as you're description would agree but I've killed two 120 plus bucks that were minimum 3 1/2 that way...including last year's buck on what I believe was the 4th or 5th set on the same stand in just 3 weeks. Again great scent control, entrance and exits and proper conditions must apply but it happens. Sadly I've only been able to hunt the rut like twice the last 6 years as I usually harvest my bucks in Early to mid October.

My opinion on over hunting a location/stand is:

If you continue to hunt the same stand weekly (how ever many days in a week you do that) and as the season progresses along you don't see many deer or none at all, after knowing through trail cams they are or were there

You can hunt an area everyday straight for 3 weeks and not burn it out. You can also ruin a spot in 2 sits. All in how you approach it.

Wind direction is 1000x more important than any amount of scent control you attempt.

This x10. I can't relate with you guys much as I really only hunt elk. As log as you play your wind smart and keep patient your animals will stay put. It's all about recognizing when an approach is wrong or not.

I think hunters with limited places to hunt and are "hardcore" are gonna sit in one place more than moving around. I have 2 properties to hunt both very small compared to some of the acreage some have posted. But as many people have pointed out scent control and wind is something us hunters with few places to hunt learn to excel so we can keep hunting and put some bone on the ground. Not saying the hunter with 15 places to hunt aren't masters of the wind and scent control either.

Hard to say when it's really over hunted. You may be able to hunt every day for a week or two in the same spot and if you haven't spooked a deer and continuously see deer never over hunt it. For me if I spook deer bad or if conditions are perfect yet I don't see anything and it's say day 3 then perhaps it's time to give it a rest.

Exactly. This is the dumbest thread I've seen. And yet people are still coming on here accusing those who hunt the same spot as not killing mature deer???? I'm sorry. So if someone on here does not follow every "rule of hunting" does that mean they started hunting yesterday and never killed a mature deer before???

Remember folks. Mr. Bear himself stalked and killed all critters in a plaid shirt, after being in woods for 2 weeks, hunting the same general area, with a 40lb recurve. Yes you read that right. He didn't burn out a spot with minimal "scent proof" clothing, no camo and didn't have a bow that shot 700fps. Can you believe it!!!!!!! He must have cheated right????

I know guys who kill a spot their first day out. If you hunt the wind yes you can hunt same spot every damn day, if wind allows it. And yes you can do it in plaid or tie dye too.

you can hunt the same stand everyday if you want and long as the wind is good and you dont spook the deer in and out. Problem i had in the pass is others hunting my stands and not going in the correct wind or spooking deer in and out. I say when you notice deer not coming to that area anymore just back off a little while.
