I'm more than happy to shoot bucks in the 135-150" range if they get me excited enough to shoot but to me big is over 150" .
In Rhode Island, a 120 class buck is GREAT and you would be getting it mounted, and bragging to everyone. I feel a BIG buck is 100-110 or higher in my area and they are out there, you just gotta put in the work to find them and hold out from shooting the smaller ones...like this guy i passed on 2 saturdays in a row in november: (dont forget to adjust the HD settings for better quality) I have both his sheds from last year, and he is growing in rather nicely this year.
I like to start shooting at 120, at 140 I would start throwing BIG around and at 160 I would start using HUGE!!!! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
State record was shot 2 miles away 2 years ago, and this past year on the new land a guy shot a buck that looked like a bull elk on the same road as us, I feel your pain man haha
This is such an area specific question. Where I hunt in the NYC suburbs, any buck 3.5 years old and over 100"-110" is a really nice deer. Any buck 4.5 years old and 125"+ is a rare deer, even for a very good, serious hunter, it's maybe a once every 10 years or so type of deer. Just too much hunting pressure and poachers hunting over bait at night for bucks to get any bigger.
For my area 140+ in terms of Big Buck in inches. but there is always exceptions like the Buck I shot last fall. He was 130" and ended up being 6-7 yo according to the neighboring land owners hundreds of cam pics of him. He actually had gone down some in terms of inches.
I voted 130s but honestly over 120s is good to me. My biggest is 142" but its my only buck so this year my limit is 120+ or if it looks good lol. I was talkin to my cousin the other day about this. I was saying for me its so hard to tell really how big they are high up in the stand idk why I guess it happens so fast everytime for me. Lol but the buck I got I thought was a 120" 8 point and ended up bein a 12 point 142". Lol so I really don't go by size or score. Just as long as it looks good.
I'll add a vote for a BIG starting at 160" here. I'll also state that shooter and BIG are different for me. 4 years old or 150" class is a shooter. Bucks that hit 160" around here are in that BIG group. Just my opinion.
I chose 140 but I have to tell you that I finally killed my first deer ever last year. He was a little 3 pointer but to me he`s a giant if you know what I mean. I shot him on my first day I went hunting, my eyes were like saucers when I saw him!! This year will be a little different i`m sure! Great poll!
One area I hunt here in NC,120 is a big buck. Another area I know of a 120+ 7. We have pics. He's a young buck so I know there have to be bigger 130+. If he goes 8 points this year and crosses my path we will find out. I believe around those parts, 140 would be a possibility. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
That's a tricky question. What do I consider big for my hunting area, or what do I consider big anywhere? In Pa where I hunt mostly 120-130 is a really nice deer. I hunted in SD in 2006 and missed (yeah missed) a 160" 10pt. That deer was BIG. So in Pa 120-130, other places 150+.
The voting is going kinda like I thought it would the only surprise is that there is more 180"+ votes than I thought there would be.
