Well the hunting season is now completely over an was wondering what I could use to bring in the deer to kinda see who made it an who didnt. Corn is my best guess? Ive read minerals really arent worth putting out till spring so thats out of the question. Just seeing what your guys' input is on this. Any help is always appreciated!

I put out my mineral already. Always works for me. I put out 20lbs in Jan, then 20lbs in march, then 20lbs in may, and july. they hit it all year.

Just re-opened (in IN has to be dug up 10 days prior to season...we dig and cover ours every year) our mineral site at our one place this weekend. Monsterraxx is the only mineral I use anymore, very low salt content and yet deer love the stuff.

We do some corn as well, well I should say either us or our one deer friendly nieghbor does. We only do it when they don't, but they're awesome and let us put a camera over by their spot to keep track of survivors (they also let us hunt their place amazingly!).

Corn might not be a good choice if there are Turkeys in the area.
We scattered Alfalfa around the trap area.

Season ends the end of Jan.

We keep them seperate and the mineral placement has all varieties. Some guys are stumpers (Pat "gutone4me" comes to mind) other holers...I usually open a shallow 3 or 4 foot wide bowl (very shallow) near a stump or root and spread mineral.

I used to put out apples, 50 lbs at a time. I was surprised how fast they ate them. Put out a bag, they'd be all but gone in a couple days. Finally put a cam on em... big flock of turkeys ate em.

Where are the best places to put mineral licks? I know stumps are good but is it better to put them on field edges or in the timber or what? thanks for the info

Well I'm puttin mine on a stump close to where there's a bunch of scrapes, rubs, an trails. So basically where there's deer activity is what I get from what I've been told/read.

Mineral sites should be a bit off trails somewhere they feel comfortable. I put mine in small open areas inside cover.

Ehhh I've seen people put em in some wide open places with great success. Hell I forget who it was said all they do is put it out, an the deer will come. So in a way I'm sure it has to do with pressure, land layout things such as this that will make or break a mineral spot.

In some areas, deer do feel comfortable in the open. Especially at nite. Hard to hit em with a bow, though, LOL!

For those that want the mineral mix I use I will post it. I go to a feed store nearby where they sell bags in 50lbs.
    50lbs dried molasses
    100lbs trace mineral
    50lbs dicalcium phosphate.

I do normally 200lbs a year and pay roughly $70 for all this. Not too bad IMO

Once you get the lick started keep putting it down every now and again to get them used to it year round. It will produce within months and keep them coming all year as mine do.

Slugger I am sure that you are getting a lot of action at your sites because of all of the salt and molasses but there is not much minerals in a mix like that.

Well currently the majority of my hunting is public land. I hunt so far in tho that it feels like private land. Also which minerals would recommend adding?
