Sota, I misspoke. A couple weeks ago I fixed a bent one on my right hand side. Have NO idea how that happened. A couple days ago I fixed three seized lug nuts on the drivers side. I had to snap them off and take off the rotor and do all that bs to put on new ones. This old truck with a 197k miles is starting to shake and shimmy in the front cv axles, especially the left side. I think that maybe all that vibration caused the tire to wobble a bit and pressure those lug nuts backwards, thereby causing them to seize on the threads. Just my theory. I also saw the inside portion of the front brakes unevenly worn as compared to the outside. Life of an old truck and a stupid mechanic (me).
I took my truck to a shop a few months ago to look at why the truck was wobbling and to balance my tires.....flash forward to recently and these bent lug nuts and seized lug nuts happened. I wonder if they F'd them up now that I am thinking about it. I have always changed my brakes and done basic work on this truck and I have never in its 15 years of life had an issue with a seized lug nut. And the truck has never been in an accident.
I was going to rotate the tires on my old Ford. Broke a lug on the front and could not get the rears loose-even with an impact. And no, I do not install lug nuts with an impact. Going to be fun heating each lug nut when they are on aluminum wheels.
^^^^ VS my truck, an f150 has 340k+ miles on it. After getting a flat repaired last spring by a local tire shop, the wheel/tire that was fixed started shaking on the state hwy on my way back to my bar. I no sooner turned into my driveway and the wheel broke off. All the lugs were snapped. I was lucky. A friend of mine steered the truck into a parking spot while I lifted and pushed it into place with my tractor. The tire guy came out and replace the studs and lugs for free. Then, this fall, I had another tire repair same place, same guy. A couple weeks later while pulling a trailer down the same hwy back to the bar the same thing happened except the wheel didn't fall off. I don't know if the guy was over tightening the lugs or if after so many miles and tire rotations that the lugs were stressed and worn out. I bought the remaining 3 wheels worth of new lug nuts and studs and had a different guy install them. So far so good. Good luck to you
