Hello everyone. I am looking to buy fixed blade broadheads and tune my bow accordingly. I notice there are a variety of cutting diameters (i.e. Slicktrick 1", Magnum 1 1/8", GrizzTricks 1 1/4", etc). What do you guys recommend for fixed-blade heads? Is bigger better or is there an optimal diameter for flight?

When you go with a bigger diameter you have to remember that you are that much closer to the shoulder. If I went back to a fixed blade I would use either muzzy or thunder heads there are a lot out there but those are the two I have used. I hope I have help you bud

I used thuderheads for years and finally decided that i didnt like the blades were held in. Then i went to muzzy and loved them, if i use a fixed blade i will definatly be using the Muzzy 100 grain 3 Blade. Now dont get me wrong there is absolutly nothing wrong with NAP Thunderhehad. I just prefer the Muzzy because the blades cant fall out, but both of these broadheads are 1 3/16 " cutting diameter in 100 grains idk about the 125 or 75 grain heads.
    Just my 2 cents!!

I shoot ST magnums and 3 and 4 blade muzzy heads. I like these alot because they work great for me. Some say that the larger cutting heads penetrate poorly when combined with light arrows and light DW bows. Don't know myself so won't comment. I shoot a heavier arrow, most likely would be considered a mid weight, with the heads I mentioned and I have 0 complaints. ST's whistle but that keeps the pigs looking until the THWACK!!!

I just bought 6 Carbon Express XT4 heads today. These look great but will get a better look at them tonight. They were on clearance so they averaged right at $3 a head. If they work, great. If not I should at least get one good shot out of each and for the price that is OK.

The only thing they whistle is death to the intended target! :)

I've hunted with the Standards, Magnums, & the Grizz tricks. They have all had excellent flight out to the 50/60 yards I shoot. They are the Best fixed blade head I have used in over 40 years of Bowhunting. :)

I completely agree. I started off using the old, tried and true Muzzy 3 blade standard. Then I got onto the mechanical kick for a while and decided that I didn't like the hassle of mechs, so I switched back to fixed heads.

I did a lot of research first and honestly, I have yet to hear anyone say much bad about the Slicks. ALL steel construction, very heavy duty blades, a blade retention system that is hard to beat (heck they are even hard to put together sometimes!). All in a super short, compact head that flies very well out of even high speed bows.

I use the standard slicks, and even though its "only" a 1" cut, they blow big holes in game. The secret is, I think, is that they're 4 blade heads instead of 3.

It seems a lot of people use the expandible. Is there anything wrong with using fixed blade broadheads? Do they fly squirrelly over a certain distance?

I personally havnt used mechanical heads in years but probably will this year, and most broadheads with a corectly tuned bow will fly true to a FP fixed or mechanical.

I would have no problems shooting consistent groups with my bow using a field point, an expandable, & a Slick Trick :)
