In Illinois my 2 biggest buck have come on Nov. 10th 1994, and Nov. 8th 2009. My biggest buck ever came last season in WI on October 29th, 2012. All three of these bucks were shot within 15-30mins of first light at less than 15 yards with archery gear. I used to start bow hunting on opening day, and hunt as many days as I can during the 3 1/2 month season. Now with work, and property access constraints I try to optimize my time in the woods for when the most deer are on their feet. I typically start hunting the 3rd week of October, and try to be done by Thanks Giving. If I need meat, I will hunt late doe only seasons with a gun, but only as a last resort to fill the freezer.

Shot this guy last year during gun season, 11-13-2012. Rough scored him at 129...not bad for only my second buck ever!

I shot my biggest about 30 min before dark on the last day of December, which is the last day to hunt bow in MI. Epic Snow fall led to epic deer!

My first and only buck so far came last year on 11/13, right at last light, approx 5:20P.

I've never killed a deer other than in the morning so I'd have to go with the morning. Specifically 8:30 AM -9:30 AM.

That sucker was so nocturnal that it took me three years to kill him. It was bittersweet. I may never have that kind of obsession with a deer again. The evening I killed him was only the second time I saw him in three years. I never put a lot of pressure on him but nearly all my trail cam pictures of him were at night. Over 42 inches of mass. Thanks guys.

Nov. 19th 2011 3:05 PM. Snow storm has just quit. He had just gotten out of bed and was planning on making the rounds and looking for some does..... I changed that for him 139 7/8". Not huge, but nice.

Here in Southeast MN, the first week of November is gold!!! You can get some looking going on the last week of October, but first week of November the chasing/seeking is off the chain!! Early season you can sneak out a buck that hasn't wisened up yet....
I have shot them literally at every different time.... If you aren't in the stand you can't kill 'em. Put in your time and it will happen when it is supposed to!!

Pre rut (3rd week of October) has become one of my favorite times to be out hunting. My biggest buck was taken October 27th in the evening an hour before dark (4 year old). I wounded a bigger buck 2 years later October 24th in the evening. He also was a 4 year old.

I know the feeling. My brothers and I had pics of my buck from last year since he was 3.5 and we never saw him other than on our cams. He was 6.5 when I killed him and it was an unbelievable feeling.
