Everyday card is Bank of America privileges reward card. You get 1 point for each dollar spent, however, you get 1.5% cash back. So spend $5000 get $75 cash. Then each month or quarter they give 3 times the points for certain categories. Jan-mar was travel, so when I booked a trip to Aspen for $2400, my statement had 7200 extra points. I redeemed so many points in 2012 that they deposited $1800 to my checking account last year. I don't care what the interest rate is, because I pay it online every few days. I use it like a debit card. I use an Amex platinum Delta card for business since its easy to ring up $50,000 a year. These gives me good perks on Delta airlines which I fly for work and pleasure, free bags, free companion tickets and FF miles. Its $150 a year, but I get more in free checked luggage in one trip with a family of four flying then the fee so its worth it. I haven't used a debit card in years. Pick a program you will actually use and stick to it. Also look for signup bonuses every now and then, there is some great deals. Last fall i had the wife sign up for Amex gold with 100,000 membership rewards for spending $1000 in 3 months. Bought a computer had the points deposited. Transfered the points to her delta account and booked 4 tickets to Denver to go skiing. So basically, buying a computer got our family of 4 $1600 in airlines tickets. Good luck
Perhpas Cabelas does have the best deal @2%. I figured some other cards would be better but guess not. It would be OK since I have a Cabelas store about 10 miles away and I do spend some money there if I can't find it somewhere else cheaper. A lot of times Cabelas is more expensive price for the item but by the time you add the shipping they sometimes are the cheapest overall due to the fact I can pick up the item in the store and not pay shipping.
I think Cabelas might be a better choice if youre going to carry a balance if its only 2%(make sure its not only introductory).
No you are missing it. I don't care about interest rate as I don't carry any balance. I just want the highest returns for purchases. Cabelas is 4% return for their store and 2% elsewhere.
We had been using cabelas until last fall for everything, we have the cabelas signature but I dont think we will qualify for that anymore. Currently we use an amex premium rewards goldcard. It gets 2% on gas and restaurants, 3% on travel.
I like cabelas as much as the next guy, but 4% return on merchandise that is 30% marked up is not a sound decision imo.
As I said before, it depends on what it is. Sometimes cabelas is as cheap as buying it online because I don't have to pay shipping. I agree their listed prices are almost always higher but you have to figure the total cost to get the item in your hands. Cabelas also matches any adverstisted price so I can usually get them to drop their prices if I need to just by bringing in an ad or print an item on-line.
I use a commerce bank credit card. 1 point for every dollar spent. I use it for everything and pay it off every 2 weeks. I redeem the points for cash or cabelas/basspro gift cards. But now I am saving my points for a new Weber grill.
My primary cards are Chase Freedom and Cabelas. Cabelas rewards are not the greatest but give me an excuse to buy more outdoor equipment Chase Freedom is a good rewards product. It pays 1% cash rewards on all purchases but also has quarterly bonus categories (gas, groceries, stores, etc) which pay 5%. Two of the quarters always include gasoline purchases which I really like.
I noticed that this thread was started over a year ago - What is everyone using now? My Capital One card just expired... I spend A LOT on gas each month, any suggestions? May have to check out the Chase Freedom.
We travel a lot and I only use American Express for the points but also for the protection. They always watch your back and are very helpful when you call or have an issue. I keep a citi MC when people don't take AMEX.
Have 70,000k airline miles built up with Alaska Airlines now and counting. Already redeemed one free roundtrip from Nashville, TN to Anchorage, AK last August and should have enough for 3 more roundtrips by this coming fall. No brainer for me. I pay every single purchase I make on it including rent, loan payments, etc. I just pay it off every other Friday and never accrue interest.
