We are thinking about trying to switch credit cards in a attempt to reap better rewards. What card do you use that gets really good cash back or some other type of rewards? I don't care about low interest rate since we pay ours off every month. I just want to maximize my potential return. Thanks.
I dont know if its the "best", but cabelas is awsome. Get 25$ for signing up. 5$ for making 5 purchases in 30 days. 4% at cabelas, 2% everywhere else. Some stores offer even more when using the cabelas card online.
I have Cabelas (let's just say home improvement materials have bought me a lot of nice things at Cabelas). My wife has a Discover. The latter is great as it's 5% cash back on select things that rotates on a roughly 3 month cycle, plus up to 20% cash back on a lot of major retailers all of the time. Works for us. No plans of adding any cards.
One that is specific to your needs as far as returns go. I could care less to earn Cabelas points because I haven't ordered from them in years, I typically find my gear second hand or on ebay for deals. I plan on hunting Alaska annually, if not moving there in the near future...so I got an Alaska Airlines credit card. Pay our $1500 rent monthly on it as well as everything I buy right down to a pack of gum, and pay it off every 2-3 weeks. I've racked up enough points for nearly 2 free flights already. One of which will be cashed in this August!
I don't have much experience with credit cards being only 21, but I have a cabelas card and it definitely seems to have the best rewards system for any hunter. I went to cabelas a few weeks back to pick up some stuff. Got $150 in gear and didn't have to pay a dime. Points covered it all and I still have some left.
I already have a cabelas card that I use to change stuff when I buy from them. I can do better than 2% elsewhere I think. Just think that I could still use cash back on hunting stuff and I am not limited to use it at one place. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I've been close to if not over black status the last three years I've owned my house Nice perks, but yikes:D
Bank of America Cash Rewards. 1% everything, 2% Gas, 3% groceries if I remember correctly and they are offering $100 if you spend 500 in the first 90 days. My wife and I pay every single purchase with this card and it pays back pretty good. I pay it off every month, never hit a days of interest and I think through different promotions and the normal rewards I've got close to $3000 back in the last couple of years. I also have a discover that offers 5% on different things for different months, I watch it pretty close and use it when it's applicable.
Amex is hard to beat. I charge a LOT of stuff on my card due to tons of work travel and use Cabelas just because there is always something I can use the points for.
I used to use my Cableas card alot but over the last couple of years I realized that I can find most gear cheaper, sometimes significantly, than what Cabelas charges for the same product, so I've kind of quit using it. Right now I am using a Scheels visa which has the same type of point system but my money goes much farther there. Example, I just bought a Ruger 357 at scheels and the regular price was $100 less than Cabelas.
Cabelas card for me. My whole family uses them. My brother saved up until he got a rifle free, I am probably going to do the same.
Chase sapphire preferred. I got free $500 bucks for spending I think $3,000 in 3 months or maybe $5,000 in 3 months. No international fees, theyll insure your goods for up to 6 months, and if the store wont take it back, they'll refund you the amount for up to 6 months. Youre also always guaranteed to get a person on the line. Plus the card is actual metal, not plastic.
Well those points took me a little while to get, not sure exactly how long, but I'm in college and don't spend much money. I'm assuming someone working full time and putting the majority of their expenses on the card will rack up points much faster than me.
I'm curious what interest rate you guys pay on those reward cards? Is it higher because it's a reward card?
When i first got the card it was 10.99%, now it's like 22% or something ridiculous. I really don't check it since I've never been charged interest.
I have Discover and we use it for everything. 1% cash back on everything, and they have monthly 5% cash back options that rotate. It works for me. We usually have $1k at the end of each year that we use to buy something. And I have no idea of the interest rate because I have never carried over a balance to the next month. I purposely limit our max to $4k each month so that we can never get in trouble. If Discover tries to raise it, I call them and tell them to lower it back down.
Your interest rate should be at its lowest right now with the way rates are right now. If your credit score is still sound you can also call them up and ask them to lower the % rate and ask for a raise in limit.
