It is my first full season bowhunting in WI. I hunt between a clover field and a bedding area with a dryed up creek directly behind me. Friday afternoon 11-6 at 2:40 pm a nice buck comes walking up broadside behind me about 45-50 yards. He walked right up the dried up creek, crossed where i walked in to my stand and just kept walking like nothing phased him. I had nothing up my sleeve for him (probably a noob mistake!) So that night i went out and bought a can estrous bleat, and some tink 69 with a drag line and a scent bomb. I have to try something to lure this little buddy to me. I tried these 2 days later with no success of calling anything at all. What should i do? I realize these are not instant success items, but i want to better my odds. Should i get a rattle bag and grunt? What do you think. Does a grunt typically work better than a bleat? Sorry for the lengthy story but i am a noob and trying to learn all i can. THANKS A MILLION
if you've seen the buck walking there more than once, even with it being the rut, move your stand into shooting range, remember the wind, and go get him. he may be walking a scrape or rub line, or that may be where does are traveling to and from food/bed, any of the above = a good chance of a buck walking there again. as far as calling, i love to use my can then a few grunts, either to simulate tending or challenging any bucks close by. if i blind call, i usually go for the bleats, but i do grunts also, depends on what i've been seeing and what i think is best at the time. good luck
