What company will be the first to offer a Trailcam with a built in GPS Locator in it?

I'd say it would be worth the extra cost, especially in a $300+ camera like a Reconyx or Predator.

How nice would it be to have a trail cam that txts/emails you photos instantly, and sends you an alert the minute it's location changes. Within seconds of a SOB stealing your camera, you could know where he was and possibly have his photo:D

    ... someday...

I'd say we aren't far off. I bet sometime within the next year, maybe two.

All cell phones have GPS locators in them,

Should be too hard for a trail camera to do it...

They already have cameras that email pics, but the "plans" are damn expensive. Someday itll be cheaper.

Yep, they already have camera's that can email you pics. If I'm not mistaken I believe Predator as some sort of GPS thing In them as well or something of the sort. Could be wrong though.

I would rather have a GPS unit that I could put in any camera I wanted, rather than a built in one. The GPS would be a nice feature, but also an unnecessay cost to have in every camera. Not to mention, if people knew it was in there, I'm sure they would find a way to disable it.

The only problem I have with the separate Unit is that most cameras are built so compact that there really isn't any good place to put it, unless it somehow locked onto the outside, but then it could be easily identified.

Schultz and Simon are correct. The technology is already there. I check into them about two years ago and they emailed out to a 2 mile radius. Things have change signifcantly now, but they're too expensive. Blood and Dan, you guys might say that now, but wait till you have several cameras and the theif steals the one w/o the GPS. That'll get you thinking! It won't be long until they're standard. It also won't be long until ppl realize they can find the GPS unit and either remove it from the camera when stealing it or they'll simply start destroying cameras. Either way I can't wait for wireless technology to get cheaper and start having solar powered wireless everywhere!

I'm going to start building my own cams, so hopefully someone comes up with a hack to include a GPS tracking device on one, because I'm not going to pay a premium for that feature. Then again, I live extremely close to where my cams would be placed, so security isn't as much of an issue.
