Well, this just negates the whole reason to wear camo...

Better off wearing red it sounds like.

Awesome response JZ! Makes perfect sense! I have never used a colored light while deer hunting. I use a 600 lumens flashlight to see where I am going. We have bear here and big ones. I want to see as much as I can while I am walking to my stand. If the moon out at dark, I don't use a flashlight to walk out of the woods, unless I am hunting unfamiliar ground.

Small green penlight by streamlight Just enough light to see the ground in front of me on the way in in the dark.

Light (photons-particles of light at certain frequencies) is different than pigment (what absorbs light of certain frequencies producing the colors we see in objects like clothing), ...those making comments on deer not seeing you if you wear red clothing. It doesn't look red to them, but they would still see you/your clothes because other frequencies of light are hitting it and reflecting. The science shows (see initial post/blog) that deer do not have the cone for red light. They cannot see it. So, again, deer can see green light from a flashlight because they have a cone in their eye that picks this frequency up, and cannot see red light from a flashlight because they do not. If you choose to use white light based on your thoughts that it doesn't bother deer, this is based on a hope/assumption that they have not been conditioned to it, or that it won't bother them when they see it. However, if you use red, they absolutely will not see it/spook because of your light because they physically CANNOT see it. Science if different than preference, and hopefully it can help those who accept it.

A lot of guys are using white flash trail cameras now. Those deer are getting a pretty bright light flashed on them without many bad reactions.

I avoid walking to a stand in the dark, don't need a light to get out after dark.

Red, solely for my own eyes. I want to make sure my pupils stay dilated.

Had a silver one that I really liked, it crapped out on me. Was a toss up between black and camouflage when I got my new one....went with black, just in case I dropped it, was hoping it might be easier to find.
