With my luminock I could see the arrow protruding from up in the torso region so I feel like it wasn't low. The buck didn't take off like normal it just kind of trotted off and slowed to a walk after about 60 yards. I feel like at 65 pounds I should be able to get through the front shoulder on a shot inside 40 yards As far as other broadheads, I used to shoot wasp 3 blades but I wasn't partial to those
Shoulder blade, probably at least through one, but getting through the knuckle isn't happening. Were you aiming at or behind the shoulder? What was your experience with the wasp heads? Did you kill a deer with them? How many years have you been bowhunting?
There was blood and hair on the tip, and it wasn't a graze because the arrow was lying in front of where the deer was hit as opposed to buried in the ground past it I know no one thinks these stories makes sense..that's because they don't. Which is why I'm searching for answers
you can replace the striker blades if they become too worn to sharpen where the montec you have to replace it as a whole and they do not sell them individually so you would have to buy a three pack to replace 1
I aimed just back of the probably 6 inches, I never try to aim at a shoulder but I feel like in the event of hitting it I should get through. I've been shooting a bow since I could pull one back but seriously hunting for the last 6 years. I haven't shot wasps for a few years when I was pulling way less pounds. I killed a handful of deer with them but only ever got one pass through. and Go Blue
Have you ever paper tuned your bow? If not then maybe your arrows are not flying flat... and if they are not then that could be the answer...
Change heads for sure. If you aren't confident in them, it'll mess with you head, and that's no good in archery. Having said that, the doe a shot two weeks with my 62# Drenalin & 2 Blade Rage, I shot right about here... She was quartered away and I was in a stand. The Rage busted through her front leg (above the elbow) and lodged in her off shoulder, busting her other leg (below the elbow). As she ran the broad head swirled in her chest doing a lot of collateral damage. She ran less than 30 yards & was done in ten seconds. I was also able to reuse the head after replacing the blades. I was only about 2 inches ahead of where I intended, but I still got good results. Can Rages malfunction? Sure I bet they can. I think that the vast majority of "Malfunctions" are less than perfect shots. Like I said before, I'd change heads regardless.
That pack of Rage's must have been made in China. I have been using them for years and NEVER have had a miss-fire. Not trying to poke holes in your story, cause crazy things can and do happen, but at 38/22 yards @ 65lbs you dont need ANY tip on the arrow to penetrate more than that. Of course I am expanding off what you considered a dead hit, which takes the direct bone hit out of the equation. Furthermore, if it was a direct shoulder hit you would have certainly heard it! Good luck on whatever alternate bh you have chosen.
Just go buy some fixed broadheads like Muzzy or Hellrzr's. Won't have the problem of mechanicals not opening.
That would be fine if the only issue is the head not expanding, but with the information provided, that doesn't seem to be the case. I don't think screwing a different head on the end of the arrow is the quick fix here.
Matt, maybe he thought he had perfect shots. Maybe it's all made up. Anyway you look at it, is it worth your time and aggravation?
I'm not aggravated, and if this conversation helps a young bowhunter, then its definitely worth my time. I'm not an a-hole all the time, you know.
I'm going to a bow shop saturday to hopefully settle everything once and for all, so thanks for the help
Those are the new Rage broadheads they are marketing in Michigan. The "Rich Rodrigez Specials". Go BUCKS!
NAP came out with a Tressel line of heads. They are called the Hypocrites. They look good, very clean cut, and talk a clean game. Something just isn't right about them though, and eventually you know there will be bad press. The broadheads are marketed as "made in the USA" and they perform very well. Watch out though, there are rumors they are being made in Indonesia, by workers being paid illegally. NAP countered this with the new Fickell heads. Problem here is, they released them too soon. The heads weren't ready for the market, and now all the bugs are being exposed. Not the best move, but they panicked and had to get something out before the season started.
