My girlfriend just got bow this year and plans to hunt here in a couple weeks but I'm not sure what broadhead to start her on. She is pulling back 45#'s and using 100 grain field points. What's a good broadhead for that low poundage bow? Fixed or expandable? Big or small cutting diameter? I was thinkin g5 strikers?

My wife is gonna be using the 75 grain muzzy broadheads with a 7.3gpi shaft arrow and 500 spine.

Id go fixed blade. Muzzy is good and I've heard good things about NAP thunder head and Slick tricks. My wife is going to shoot the thunderheads. She is pulling around 40 pounds right now.

For her lower poundage setup you'll want to stick with a fixed-blade head. She'll get better penetration out of that than an expandable.

When it comes to fixed blades they are mostly very close in size. Most are from 1 1/16" to 1 1/4" cutting diameter.

My personal recommendation would be something like an NAP Thunderhead Razor. It's a mid-sized cut on contact head w/replaceable blades that flies very much like a field point.

Check them out here - http://newarchery.com/products/1-58/broadheads/thunderhead-razor.html

I think the Strikers would be an excellent choice

You should give the Magnus stingers a try.

I will second, or third, the slick tricks. Shot mine today(grizztrick 2) and they fly right with my field points. And after about 20 minutes of shooting them they don't seem to need to be resharpened. Although I probably will anyway.

I'd put on a muzzy/slick trick or some other small broadhead

is she hunting from a tree stand, or a ground blind? if its a tree were shots will be with in 15 to 25 yds i would use a fixed blade , three bladed blood runners r good , if on the ground ,and shots may vary , i would go the expandable route, maybe a rage? key thing is its really what ever she is best at shooting , good luc

I would strongly advise AGAINST an expandable.

I shoot 62 lbs and draw 29", and I won't even shoot expandables. Her set-up is way too light for an expandable.

100gr Slick Trick Standard, 100gr NAP Nitron, one of the smaller Muzzy, or the 2 blade Magnus heads are what I would recommend.

I am going to try the grizz tricks even on mine-pulling @ 62 lbs-did not have any luck on the scwhakers or rage (but i need a very short recovery trail). A buddy shot from the same blind, almost the same hit (a little far back) the deer did not make it 30 yards. He was shooting a stinger @ 50 lbs. With her lighter weight, i would shoot a fixed. I would try the slick tricks. But??? I am going by what i have heard on this forum also. I just know how far my buddy's deer ran with the magnus. I never recovered either deer with the rage or schwaker. But, in their defense, you need to have a bow that produces over 60 lbs of kinetic energy. I was shooting an old matthews featherlight circa 2000. New bows are better.

Sorry, new bows are not the answer. My 25 year old bow will put a field point through a 3" pine board at thirty yards. There is a lot to be considered. Bow poundage, arrow weight, broadhead type and I think even let off. Most mechanical heads need energy behind them to make them function properly.

A solid cut on contact fixed blade head would be my suggestion. My wife and son both use the 85 gr. Montecs and have great flight, awesome penetration, and no complaints.

Fixed, fixed, fixed, she does not have enough KE for an expandable.
