Ok i just have a really quick question. I have been using a PSE nova for about 12 years and its set at 60 pounds, and im upgrading this year to a new bow and i want to know it is worth pulling the extra 10 pounds to have a bow set at 70? And how much harder is it to pull the 70 pound bow since i have never shot a bow over 60 pounds. Thanks for any replies and info.
Just shoot whatever your comfortable with. Ive heard people you should not only be able to pull it back with ease, but also back down with ease
stick with the 60lb bow will work fine for you...my dad has pulled 60 for 20yrs and has killed countless deer...hes huge...just likes the ease of 60lb when you sit in the stand at 0 deg for 5hrs and then have to get up and pull on a deer
i think the last time peak weight was changed on my bow it was set at 63 pounds and when i stoped bow hunting it was actually kinda light for me, i have only shot a bow probably 30 times in the last year or year and a half so im hoping that 70 pounds wont be to much as i have never pulled a 70 pound bow before although my cousin has a 70 pound mathew drenalin so i might go tri shooting it first.
A 12 year old 60 lb PSE is not "too slow" to take an ethical shot on a deer. That said, 60 lbs 12 years ago is way different than 60 now. My advice is to get out and shoot 60 out of a new bow and see for yourself.
Well the bow i am looking at is the 32" ata PSE bow madness, and its rated at 331 fps IBO. Now i know that realistically most if not all bows do not shoot IBO speed when set up for hunting. So im just really bouncing between 60 and 70.
i would like to have at least 300 fps. draw length is 28 inches, and as far as arrow weight i shoot 29 1/2 easton powerflight 300 with 100 grain broadheads.
I don't have a program, but I think if you are buying a bow that IBO's at 331, you're gonna have to pull like 75-80 lbs to get 300 out of it, shooting those arrows at 28 inch draw. I don't think you should be worried, just go shoot some bows. Speed is great, it's just not everything.
