I have been shooting Easton 2117 aluminum XX75 for about 15 years. I am looking to get in the modern age and purchase some carbon arrows. I have been looking at the carbon Express Maxima Reds. My set up is 60# draw weight with a 28.5 inch draw length and currently shooting 27 inch arrows. My bow is a Matthews legacy. A couple questions. 1. What size arrow with the CE Maxima Red should I go with? 2. What factors should I consider when choosing size of arrow? 3. What other arrows should I be considering? This is a hunting setup. Thanks in advance for any information you can share!! Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
I would prefer made in USA arrows. CX is not. Easton Axis or Hexx is what I recommend. My next arrow with be Axis Match Grade - if the Axis I have now ever break.
Carbon express maxima reds are the best arrows I have ever shot Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
I just switched to Black Eagle Spartans and I love them so far. Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
anyones thoughts on GT Hunter XT's for someone with 28" DL and draw weight around 60-65 lbs. I am shooting 125 gr. Magnus Stinger Killer Bees this year and want to add a 50-75 gr insert up front. you think a 400 spine Hunter XT would work with my set up?
I’m shooting the same. 100 grain insert. 125 grain head with a 50 grain weight. 30.5” arrow @ 60lb. For your shorter arrow length you could probably get by with a 340. But would likely get better flight being slightly stiffer 300. I’m shooting a 300 but the 250 is slightly better. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I misread the chart. I was thinking 400 was the stiffer spine but i was mistaken. After trying to research, all these spine number from these companies get to be too much LOL. and to be honest im not even sure i read the correct chart. Thanks Fix!!
I’m 100% on the goldtips. But there are some (at least one anyways) company that has their chart system opposite. Where higher numbers are a stiffer arrow. So just be sure on which arrows you use. GT however is higher=more limber. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Go with the 300's like Fix said he would do, he's right. Last year I decided to build a bit heavier arrow and wanted more FOC. I went with the GT XT Hunters. I'm a 27.5" DL at 65 lbs, so according to the chart I went with a 340. My arrows are cut to 26.5". I went with a 12 grain insert and added 20 grains to the back of the insert with GT's F.A.C.T. system. So, basically a 32 grain insert with a 125 tip. Paper tuned the bow until getting a bullet hole. Then moved out to 20 yards and shot bare shaft. Constant nock left condition. Tried to fine tune the rest with no real great results. Pulled the 125 head finally and put in a 100. Boom, that was it. Nock left indicates a weak spine issue, removing some FOC weight put me back in. Obviously right on the edge of spine with a 340, and I really didn't even throw that much weight up front.
I switched to carbon express maxima reds. I don’t like them anymore than the FMJ 5mm. To me, they shoot and fly the same. Really just a preference on what company gets my $200
