Here are a couple video of my son when he was 11 getting a passthrough with his 23"draw @ 40# bow. Not a real efficient bow either. http://static.photobucket.com/playe...t.com/albums/oo356/tfox03/dylanmovietake2.mp4 http://static.photobucket.com/playe...t.com/albums/oo356/tfox03/dylanmovietake3.mp4
Does anyone know how arrow length and FOC % relate? Is there a need to increase or decrease FOC with longer or shorter arrows? I've never really thought about that one before.
I doubt it makes much difference but it takes less weight up front to increase foc on a short arrow. Sent from my DROIDX using Tapatalk
and I was considering her concerns for penetration, thus the recommendation for the .500 spine arrow and leaving it a little longer. I always like to have a little longer arrow personally as I don't like having those razor sharp BH's any closer to my finger than I have to, plus if an arrow jumps off the rest or whatever, easier to slip back up there with your index finger if it's a little longer...
Googled the following, there is actually quite a bit written about it. Understanding and Applying FOC The shorter the arrow one shoots, the higher the FOC should be. Shorter arrows are inherently less stable in flight. alaskabowhunting.com/PR/Ashby_EFOC.pdf
I believe there is merit to needing more foc with a shorter arrow and something I believe is that a higher ke setup doesn't need as much foc for stability in flight. Sent from my DROIDX using Tapatalk
Those videos were awesome! I think I will probably go with the 600 axis. Thanks everyone you've been a lot of help.
Tracey did hook me up with easton 500's. I paper tuned my bow with the easton 500 and a FMJ 400 and the FMJ far exceeded it. Im not sure the exact measurements of the performance of my bow. My arrows are cut to 24.5 inches. The new Jewel out performs my old Passion by alot. It is so much faster and smoother.
At 24 1/2 you will want to stay with a .500 spine. The FMJ's are an extremely easy arrow to tune. Very forgiving spine on those shafts. I have some 500 FMJ's myself that I shot at 53# and they tuned great. Even when they shouldn't. However,I shot 1 deer with them and failed to get a passthrough when I felt I should have. Maybe a freak occurrence but I lost confidence in them. I did recover the deer and it was my best buck to date. Sent from my DROIDX using Tapatalk
Something else I feel will help with penetration is to use feathers. This will increase foc but the main reason is you don't have to worry about vanes hanging up in the animal. I have done quite a bit of penetration test and vanes would catch on some of the testing material. Sent from my DROIDX using Tapatalk
