I've been attempting to video my hunts without much success the last few years. I would say I only carry the camera with me about 20% of the time, mainly because my current camera arm is more of a struggle than it's worth. I currently have the Pine Ridge camera mount, just because it was the cheapest when I bought it. I'm thinking about stepping it up though. I use a small Sony Handycam, nothing too fancy. I've looked at the Muddy Outfitter, but I think I would need to purchase a Fluid Head to go along with it, correct? I've also thought about the 3rd Arm Outback. Anyone have any experience with these 2 models, or anything else that they might suggest. Not looking to spend a fortune here, but would like to quality arm to use.
You do need a fluid head with the Muddy Outfitter. I have the Outfitter and it's been great for my Canon HF S20. It's rock solid, but light enough that it's easily packable. I've used the 3rd Arms too, but I just didn't like them as much. I never felt as confident with their security and stability as I do with the Muddy.
I second the Muddy Outfitter. I'd also check out HunterCam Cradle Mini, if you hunt from a climber. Outfitter might be overkill, if you're just using a handycam. Also, the HunterCam Cradle Mini comes with a fluid head.
I also use a Handycam but I just went with the Gorilla arm. I also have the Pine Ridge arm but like the Gorilla way better. Don't think you really ned much more for that camera. Sent from my T8788 using Board Express
I have the Muddy Outfitter as well, but I feel that is overkill for a Handycam. If you are looking to step up to a bigger camera, then go for it. If not, I would go with the Hunter Cam Cradle mini. That arm is super light and portable and won't break the bank.
