    First, answer the following questions:

Do you primarily shoot Traditional, Compound or X-bow?
How many years have you been serious about archery?
How often do you typically practice?

What radius groupings do you expect to shoot when practicing at the following distances? When I say expect let’s say you assume you will hit >80% within. Assume practicing under perfect conditions (no wind, etc.)

Edit: I am talking about how far you typically are away from the X (>80%). What do you expect to shoot within from what you are aiming for.

    10 Yards-
    20 Yards-
    30 Yards (if applicable)-
    40 Yards (if applicable)-

This should be interesting. Let's be honest!

How often do you typically practice? 4-5 times a week

What radius groupings do you expect to shoot when practicing at the following distances? When I say expect let’s say you assume you will hit >80% within. Assume practicing under perfect conditions (no wind, etc.)

10 Yards- I don't shoot groups, arrows cost too much (compound)
    20 Yards- Same
    30 Yards (if applicable)- Same
    40 Yards (if applicable)- Same

With the longbow I shoot out to 25 yds. I expect groups to be no larger than 4"

Shot the longbow 2 days ago and was all over the place. Bad release, not "picking a spot", just a horrible practice. I put the bow away after 15 arrows. I was not in the right frame of mind to shoot. had I kept going I wouldn't be helping I'd be hurting.

I shoot compound and try to shoot 20-50yards at least once a week all year long and more during hunting season. I've been hunting for 19years and have been shooting archery 24 years. I don't shoot groups anymore because I don't like to break expensive arrows. On a five spot out to 30 I like to keep it in the white, and 40 and 50 if it's in the circle it good to me. I find it crazy that guys shoot groups and try to reck good expensive arrows. Maybe they just have more money than me.

Okay, I need to rephrase the question. What radius do you expect to shoot typically from the X?

It doesn't matter if you shoot in the same X or not. I am curious about how close you hold your "groups" to what you are aiming for.

    With compound.

    10 Yards-1.5 inches with compound
    20 Yards-2.5 inches
    30 Yards (if applicable)-3.5 inches
    40 Yards (if applicable)-N/A

With the recurve that I have been shooting for a few weeks

    5 yards-3-4 inches
    10 yards-5-6 inches
    20 yards--hit the target!

I shoot compound and have been for 7yrs. Once my bow is sighted i dont shoot for bullseyes after that. I mark my targets to replicate a deers vitals and pratice to the point i can consistently hit them. I don't shoot a measured (10,20,30,40) distance instead i make sure i shoot from as many different distances with in my range. Maybe i'm wrong with this approach but it has worked for me.

80% of the time really isn't what I would call "consistent".

Do you primarily shoot Traditional, Compound or X-bow?
    • Compound
How many years have you been serious about archery?
    • Shot for roughly 20 years. Been competing and seeing a professional coach on and off for about 5 years.
How often do you typically practice?
    • 1-2 times a week if I'm lucky. As of today I haven't shot for over a week.
    10 Yards-
    • I only shoot 10 yards when in my basement practicing. I can clean a 45 arrow vegas game on X's at 10 yards pretty consistently, so that would be 45 arrows in a row hitting a .79" dot.
    20 Yards-
    • I shoot in local indoor spot leagues every winter, usually 450 vegas targets. I'm shooting in the 445-449 range, so that's anywhere from 40 to 44 arrows out of 45 in a 1.5" dot. Two weeks ago I shot a clean Vegas 300 with 26 baby X's, so that was 26 out of 30 arrows in a .79" dot.
    30 Yards-
    • I don't have a scored method of tracking my groups at 30 yards, but I can hit the black dots on a Morrell Outdoor Range bag 9 out of 10 times at 30 yards most days.
    40 Yards-
    • Again, no way of scoring this really but most of my outdoor shooting while practicing for 3D season is done at 40 yards on Morrell Outdoor Range Bag. I can hit it once in a while if I aim hard and pull the trigger fast. :p

I shoot compound and traditional. I'm fairly new to traditional so I will respond according to my compound. I practice 2-3 times/week from 5-50 yards. Before starting a session I shoot blind bale for about 20 minutes. After that I shoot out to 50 yards. I don't shoot groups except at 50 yards. My goal is within 2" 15 and under, within 4"from 15-40 and within 6" at 50. I feel one set goal is too hard on me and practice should feel good so this is my routine. NOTE...Most of my shooting time is spent at 5 yards and 50 yards. I get the most out of my practice at these two distances. I have been shooting compound for 25 years. I also let down ANYTIME something does not feel right! PRACTICE DOES NOT MAKE PERFECT...PERFECT PRACTICE MAKES PERFECT. Forgot who said that, but it has alot of truth to it. Another very important part of every practice session is to let each release of my arrow surprise me...Anticipating the shot and punching the trigger is A VERY BAD HABIT!

How many years have you been serious about archery?Serious to me, 4 years. Serious compared to most of you 0 yrs.

I never bothered to physically measure any group. I shoot at an 18-1, if you are familiar with that, up to 25 yds I expect to be in the center bull of the big faces. Out to 50 yds I am happy to be within any part of the big faces.

Do you primarily shoot Traditional, Compound or X-bow? Recurve

How many years have you been serious about archery? Been bow hunting for 25 years this year (10 of them with a compound and 15 with my recurve).

How often do you typically practice? Allot. Some weeks I'll fling 500 arrows, other weeks not so much. Not much practicing done In the winter months though, too cold outside.

10 Yards- I expect very good results from 10 yards. If I'm off by a couple Inches I'm pissed.
20 Yards- I expect good results here too but I know there not going to be as good as 10 yards. If I'm with In 2 Inches I'm satisfied. Any farther off then that I get down on myself.
30 Yards (if applicable)- Same as 20 yards but I know It's not always realistic. I guess that's why I have never took a shot beyond 23 yards. Not good enough.
40 Yards (if applicable)- Just for fun. I do surprise myself though at times. ;)

I didn't even look at the other answers. Here's the real jeff.

I shoot a recurve. I typically try to shoot a few arrows, every day. Some days I shoot over 100 shots. Some days I shoot 30 (or so).

    10yds - within a couple inches
    20yds - within 4" (+/-)
    30yds - within 6" (+/-)
40yds - 8-10" on a normal day. Can be better....but you asked for "avg".

I placed in the top 20 in a regional, east cost shoot last year. I won 1 3D tournament in '09 and 1, already, this year. I'm FAR below some of the guys I shoot with (conisistency) and above some others. My "avg" is not my "best". It's "avg".
