Not doing a ton at the current moment. I have 3 cameras out here close to home that I'm checking on a semi-regular basis. I also took a walk through 2 of my spots that I didn't much hunt this past weekend just to see what was happening. Not much at either of them really. Although the crop rotation for one of the spots will be good for next fall, so who knows what will happen. The other spot seems good, but photos seem to be very sporadic. I'll get 3 bucks in 1-2 days, and then no bucks for 2 weeks. Gonna try to figure that out before next fall, as I think it's one of my better spots to kill a good buck. Other than that, just thinking/planning about when and where I'll hunt next fall. It's going to be an interesting year, not sure how it's all going to pan out in the end. Only time will tell. Another month or so and I'll start hitting a few spots for sheds, but nowhere I can hunt. Probably start hitting those in Feb.
Man I gotta bunch to do on the boat. Replace the deck and add a raised platform on the front. Build a stand and shroud for the pusher fan and rig the steering set-up...or did you mean that deer hunting stuff?
Well, currently, getting my new bowtech ready for next year, and trying to find property to hunt on. Know of any...:D
are season goes until jan 15 why are you guys talking about next year??? oh ya there is my guitar fetish, that needs some attention. also summer was way to short and the lake is my still calling me home after that ill be working in the boat garage on a new engine combo in my dragboat and spare engines for the lake, you would think i would grow up but NOT.. 565 cu in. of v drive 3 forward gears and a 350 shot of nos 29 over gear set. :D
Lots of hunting left for me this month and into early Jan. I confirmed my Montana late season trad bow doe hunt today! So I will have two doe tags to try and fill acrosst he border near Bozeman. Then the one either sex tag left here for Idaho. Something's gonna eat an arrow. Man I love bitter cold late season hunting..Just me and the mountains, not a soul in the woods. Gonna hit the shed trail down south for a few days over Christmas break. Farm ground shed hunting, the land I wanted to hunt the past two early seasons only to have moms cancer pop up two years ago and Dee's sis passing away this early season. One of these years I am gonna get to hunt that awesome country for whitetails, hopefully next early season! Gonna shed it hard this winter, that should be interesting and dictate how much time I want to spend down there in the future. Then back to N.I. to hit all my shed areas and continue to expand out more. I have a certain bull elk I am gonna put a lot of time in trying to find for my bro Ryan. Thats high on my list of priorities. Leaving trail cams out Dec/Jan/Feb for the first time ever.. see what happens there.. may be a new bow in my arsenal as well.
Hell my season isn't even over yet. After late season bow is done there is rabbits and then Coyotes. I can't wait for Spring Turkey, I'm not even thinking about next season until mid summer, too much hunting to do before then!
Still got a tag I'm trying to fill for this year.... But for next year, I'm already starting to give some thought on where I'm going to apply, look at what tags I will or won't probably draw and figure out a fallback hunt or two in case I don't draw anything.
i wont close out on this season till Jan. 15th been getting out tuesdays and fridays most weeks but havent been seeing much. new spot this friday fingers crossed
I'm still hunting (1.5 more weeks). My remainder of the season will be spent mostly hosting others, though. I have an active duty military guy coming 5 hours to hunt with me this weekend. Can't wait. Never met him...and it's something I've been trying to set up for over a year. My off-season work will begin on the 20th. I suspect most of my "work" will occur with a chainsaw in hand. I've got some areas I think I can make more productive - by re-routing deer more towards where I can hunt them (on a man-made breakline). I'll also do a little fence-work, to attempt to do the same in a couple more areas. Should be interesting. For once, I have some stands to retrieve, also.
Well since I just got permission to hunt the land I hunt on this year I pan on getting some cameras planting some food plots making a few trails with the bobcat for easier access. My grandmother has giving me free reign to do whatever I want so I'm going to try and make a little slice of deer heaven to hold some more deer on the land. There are a lot of beding areas on the property but they are going else where to feed. So ill have a busy off-season in prep for next year
Still hunting myself and then will move into shed hunting once season closes out. I plan to get out sooner in the year and more often to shed hunt this year.
I have already started scouting some areas, mainly during the week when im off and no one else is hunting. I cant wait for shed season How is little Bucko doing Scott? bet he is growing quick Daddy'o
I have been using this thing called a rifle and will do so for one more weekend. Then I will muzzleloader hunt the following weekend.I have taken two rifle deer and if I shoot one more I will archery hunt the last weekend. There are a couple of good bucks that I am trying to schedule a meeting with.
scouting(this weekend), now that we have alot of new snow. looking for and buying a recurve, and wooden arrows to hunt with next season. i'm also going to make a back quiver, arm guard and probly a bow case out of my older deer hides, should be fun. can't wait for next season
I have one more hunt left Saturday, so i will probably do an all day sit in which I expect to see nothing. Started thinking about and planning my trip for the midwest next year. After Illinois this year I don't see how I can go a season without going to the midwest ever again. It looks like I might have a chance to hunt Kansas for free(minus the tag if I get drawn) so I am going to start getting that lined up. After Saturdays hunt going to get some new strings made for and put on the alpha max.
What I always find fascinating is the sunlight facture that seems to be with just about every buck bed I come across this time of year. Always amazes me... and yet I always expect it too.
