Thanks Jerry! I went into this elk season saying I was going to take the first opportunity I had. Just so happen it was at daylight. I may have killed the first legal elk in CO this year:)

Congratulations man! That's awesome. That just gets me more fired up to head to CO. Have you been hearing many bugles?

Nice pictures and congrats on the elk. Leaving thursday and I'm losing my mind with excitement.

Sounds like some good encounters carp.

Elk are bugling in Wyoming. I'm hunting deer this week and my buddy will join me on the mountain next weekend. He has the tag, I have the calls :D.

Just came off the mountain. It rained most of the day yesterday. After the rain quit the mountain lit up with bulls screaming. Got my sister within 50 yards of a 4x. No shot at vitals though.

Sounds like a good time. It's killing me waiting until next week to leave to hunt.

I woke up at 4 this morning. No reason at all except excitement. I'm not a morning person at all unless I'm hunting. This is crazy.

One of the guys we are meeting up with in Idaho left from Oregon last night. Not long after getting into Idaho he almost hit a nice 5 x 5 or 6 x 6 with his vehicle. He said he was tired from driving all night, but instantly awakened after seeing the giant bull. We leave tomorrow night. I'm hoping my friend can get one Friday when we get there so we can help and eat fresh elk. Something I haven't done except with deer. We will be hunting together so if he gets one early he will be calling for me the rest of the trip.

2 others going out with me from Iowa. They are hunting together.

Oh wait...this is what am I doing to get ready for elk. Ran 5 miles last night. Packed 6.5 miles Monday. Ran 5 miles Sunday. Did I mention I'm going crazy!

Even though it was a calf it stilled sucked. I had my frame an all the meat from that animal an it left bruises on my shoulders. It's a lot more weigh than it looks like when you get it in the pack. I had other ppl offer to help but I wanted to carry it down myself. I full grown cow or a bull would be a B word for sure.

I had my old man an sister hunting with me. They would have gladly shared the load. Just thought I would do it. You don't realize how heavy that stuff is until you get off the mountain, take the pack off, then walk weird for thirty mins because you're still trying to lean forward from all the weight.

Taking it kind of easy til I leave out Wednesday. I definitely don't want to run the risk of pulling anything or hurting myself 2 days before I leave. I figure that resting up for a couple days probably won't hurt me before I head to the elk woods.

Man those pictures on the stove makes my mouth water, great packaging in the cooler also.

    Prep:
Shooting shooting shooting with pack, eating better, hiking with pack as able, stretching, resting & shooting, equip check & repair (wore out loop, better safe than sorry, replaced), planning for opening day. My occupation keeps me fit ... when I eat right.

Awesome! I've harvested my first Elk and Mule deer this year. Both hunts were DIY on public land with a bow. Good luck to you!
