They were fine actually. Just a little warm. The only thing that bothered me was I had something in the bottom of my pack jabbing the lower part of my back, but it didn't bother me until about 6 miles in. I think it ended up being my extra fuel canister. I will have to rearrange and organize everything in my pack once we get out there anyways, so it should be a lot more comfortable when we hike in.
I'm leaving Wednesday night after work for Wyoming. Got in a good workout tonight and going to the chiropractor tomorrow for a tune up before I plant my butt in the pickup for a 21 hour drive. Good luck to you guys and take lots of pictures. :D
I've only got a 12 hour drive to my dad's house. After that it's another 4 to where we are going. It's a little shorter trip than what you are taking.
JGD,Z7,snake,scarps good luck to you guys and a safe trip. cant wait to see pictures of your hunt regardless of harvesting an animal. I'm going tomorrow thru Saturday. Then again Monday thru Friday.
I will try to take a lot of pictures. Good luck this week! I'm seriously not getting anything done right now. My mind is in another place. I've never been so excited for anything in my life.
I love bow hunting elk. There is something about the mountains that calls to the soul. When you hear the bugling of the elk echoing down the canyon it energizes the soul. Then you realize all the hard work and sweat is worth that moment and God put this here for us if we will just listen and learn. Sorry I get carried away at times.
Some of my favorite memories elk hunting are not of actually hunting Elk. They are when your laying under the stars an the sound of bugling puts you to sleep. There is nothing like that sound anywhere. Truly an awesome experience.
Good luck to you as well. I take my camera every year. Sometimes I forget to get it out of my pack an take pics though. This year I'm going to try an fill a memory card or two.
Good luck to you too. Everything is ready to go, just waiting on the date. It's gonna be great regardless, especially since the other guys going along have never even seen the mountains. I can't wait to see the looks on their faces. It will be a great trip no matter what.
13 hour drive later an I'm In CO! Excited for Saturday morning! Good luck to you guys that are hunting this weekend.
Good luck and have a good trip. I'll be getting the enclosed trailer Saturday and loading up as much as I can so it'll be ready come the 11th.
Z7, way to go. We filled one more tag yesterday. I'm trying hard but cant seem to close the deal. I was able to get a small 5x6 to the young lady who has the big bull tag but she was shaking so bad she couldn't get her bow pulled back. She apologized up and down and her Dad felt terrible. I told her I would rather do that then shoot one myself. Hopefully this week we can repeat the process and I will have another story to tell.
Sounds like ya'll are gett'n after'em. I'm deer hunting now and have been scouting elk for my buddy who will be joining me next weekend. Bulls are bugling pretty well but it is hot! Mid 90's in the low lands and mid 70's in the high country. The elk don't seem to mind though. I watched a huge mule deer yesterday morning for about an hour. Even with a 300 mm zoom lens he was far away. Pretty cool though. Good luck to all of you. Sooner, good work man; you didn't waste any time. :D
Here are a few pics from opening day. This was before the pack uphill to camp. My bow was literally done an strapped to my pack by 630 am Couple pics of the views. Another pic of the little calf An this is the pic of me getting ready to pack the meat to the truck. For being an elk calf that sucker was heavy. Had a little over 100lbs of meat to carry down.
