Loving this excitement. Only problem is I'm still awake at 1 am. Got new issue of extreme elk and I'm not sure I can sleep after seeing some of the pictures and reading articles.

Ran a 10k Saturday. Going to back off the running and try to hike with pack more this next month. Got everything ready. Just time and sleepless nights right now.

Good luck this year! Your tougher than I am running a 10k. Hope you get to stick one!

I'm hoping one of us can get one or least we have some opportunities to get close. I'm trying not to expect too much, but I'm very optimistic as a person and can't help but believe that I will get one. A novice confidence for elk.

    Good luck to everyone else.

I feel the same way. I go into everything hoping for the best. I've got confidence, but I'm sure most of that is probably just from not knowing any better. I'm still busting tail workin out though. I did some pure cardio, cardio abs, and a 3 mile hike with my pack on today. Feels good.

Been working out since April. 3 times per week I go to the gravel pit and hike up and down the steep sides until my legs cannot go any longer. I started out with no pack and now am up to 50lbs. When done with that I shoot for an hour from 20-60 yards. New string, arrows and the bow is tuned in....broadheads are flying great. Between the hiking I do ab crunches in 3 sets. I go until it burns where I cannot take it. Then push ups.

I want to jog but my feet are not cooperating.....I see the foot doc on Wednesday....I know I have a cyst in one foot and pain in the other that I am not sure about. One hurts before I work out, then goes away when I do, the other hurts after (cyst) I work out.

Looks like a good way to get ready. Just got back to hiking with pack again after running mostly. My quads are a little sore after 3 miles of hills from yesterday. I definitely think that the walking with pack is better preparation than just running. Especially if you can at least go up and down some hills. No experience talking here, just what I would guess would better prepare someone. Closest way to somewhat duplicate without altitude and mountains.

    Good luck.

Still been going strong on Insanity and have started hiking with my completely full pack (bout 50 lbs.) Also been shooting my bow almost everyday out to 60 yards. Come on Sept. 12th.

Is it wrong that I can't wait to see your trail cam photos of elk? If that's wrong...I don't want to be right.

Been in Wyoming all week hanging sheetrock at my son's house. Doing some hikes in the evenings. If hanging the rock doesn't kill me it might help get me in shape. I did squeeze in a few rounds of golf too... :D. Here are some some shots from the golf course.

Going for a long hike tomorrow with a full pack. Can't wait. Bought all my food the other day and got everything but the tag. I'm ready to go!

Love the speed goat pics JGD. All I'm doing now is waiting on the days to pass. I've got a good feeling about Elk hunting this year. I'm just ready to go!

Going to start jogging Monday.....will get in a month+ between hiking with a pack. Went to the foot doc.....have alignment issues with my feet and I am getting some kind of expensive shoe insert that takes 5 weeks to get. He wanted me to go in for an MRI, I ask for a price to do my foot and ankle.....do not need the ankle done but he wanted it......$7K plus some change. Going to pass and self heal unless it gets too bad then it is what it is. So I am where I am at for foot pain until after my hunt. Dealt with more pain than this before I can make it til October.

I think the young jar head is coming out in me.
