Nice toes Sooner. LOL I've staggered around on some mountains over the last couple of days. Glassed a bit. Finally found a bunch of elk. Even some mountain goats. The elevation does beat up on me pretty bad. My dog too. I brought her out with me and you can tell she's a flat land dog. She normally never stops running and on these hikes, she'd actually lay down. I think what I really need.... is a dirt bike or a quad. heh heh. But now I have to head back to Illinois again. Boo. At least I'll start shooting my bow when I'm back there.
Thanks to the primitive bow hunting organizations in Colorado. Removing the lighted nocks from all my arrows and putting on the old one. Which is not easy Taking off the light on my HHA site Removing the bracket for my camera so I can't film my hunts in CO Besides working out and practicing 60 yard shots
Taking off the light on my HHA site Looks like I missed this one. I suppose taking battery out wouldn't be sufficient. Idaho is the same as I just researched.
I hear if you can't take it off that removing the battery is OK but double check. I didn't know it and last year I had all that stuff on my bow and a second small Looxcie camera Hope you feel like your keeping the tradition of archery hunting pure now
Thanks! Saw at least 50 but they sure are a long way from the road. I was kind of hoping I could do some day hunts where I could be out before first light but still be home well before dark... but dang, it would take me almost all day just to get to the same ridge the elk were on. Now I know why even the locals have a 'camp' they go to. (and why atvs/motorcycles/horses are everywhere) I'll get this figured out eventually.... :D
I never have. My uncle has killed several along with a moose further north. One of these days I will!
LOL they are better now. I'm ready to start training again. Those mountains will wear you out if your not ready for them, that's for sure!
So you guys that have hunted the mountains, I have a question for you. I am from basically flatlands. Do you think it will be enough for me to do the Insanity workout and run a couple miles/hike with my pack on in off days? Or do you think that I need to be hiking everyday along with my Insanity workout?
Coming from another flatlander I'd say you can never do enough to get ready for those mountains. In my experience out there you can do all you can leading up to it but that first day or so is still gonna kick your butt. I would def be hiking/running/walking every day until you leave.
Congrats on finding the elk. I have elk hunted since I was sixteen (Im 51) except for a couple years of military stuff. I raised my kids elk hunting now they are in there 20's they do a lot of the work of getting the animal out My elk camp is 14 miles off the highway then we go in any where from 1/2 a mile to 5 miles. I love it.
Snake, if you're doing the Insanity workout regularly you'll be fine. I would recommend hiking with your backpack if you will be hunting with one just to get the feel of it. If you can do it climbing stairs or a hill, so much the better. I've never heard anyone in elk camp say, "gee, I over trained for this hunt".
I had a busy weekend but was able to shoot my broad heads. I will shoot them again but as of now they are flying good.
I've got to get out an practice with mine. May do that in the next day or so. Still trying to decide if I'm going to go with slick tricks or not.
This is exactly what I'm doing. The only bad part is that I have no hills at all around my house. I'm on week 3 of Insanity and have been backpacking and running too. I'm definitely trying to do my best, considering my pack will be 40 something lbs that I will have to haul in and camp out of. If nothing else, at least I am getting healthier.
Got up at 5:30 this morning to do some Insanity pure cardio, immediatley followed by some cardio abs. I was soaked.
