Cool pics Christine. Hopefully the person is okay that fell. Been packing around with my pack loaded up. Feels nice compared to carrying the 40 pound bag of dirt that didn't ride the best on the pack. Probably a better way to train than that bag of dirt for weight. It does feel really light now though. Guy I'm going out hunting with was in Colorado this weekend for a wedding. He said he "ran" 2.5 miles at 10,000 feet and it was a humbling experience. HA.
Does that seem to fit inside the pack so it actually "packs" better than how I've had it strapped to outside. That was my problem. I also used a lot of gorilla tape and it was pretty solid. Couldn't bend it much. I didn't want a bunch of dirt spilling.
I am just tryin not to lose my mind while waiting. 10 more days till I head out. Seems sooooo far away lol
I live in MD and there are not a lot of big hills. I do have one hill that ascends about 100 feet so I put a 20 lb. pack on and walk up and down as fast as I can until my legs are shaking or I puke. Then I go shoot my bow for about 45 minutes. Cardio is a constant. I'm getting to Colorado a couple days early and will be doing some running to cap things off. Come on Sept 6th!!
I'm almost done with my 6th week of Maxworkout and I'm really noticing a difference in my overall strength. My cardio (running) has been a constant all spring and summer and the weighted pack workouts will start this week. I'm 4 weeks, today, from heading west. Hard to believe.
Best of luck to you. I'll be heading back to Colorado to do a DIY trip next year again. I'll be taking my wife with me for that trip. I don't know that I'll go back to the same place that I went to the first time, being that it was so steep, but I'm hoping more to find a place for her to hunt a little easier. As for now though, I ran another 4 miles today and am just waiting for Sept. 11 to get here to head to Idaho.
I gave blood. Now my heart hammers when I just walk around the yard. Hiking in the mountains should be extra fun for awhile. To fire up you elk hunters.... The cow elk would chirp back to us when we called. They didn't waltz into range tho'. A few bulls are talking now too.
Weighted pack hikes I started my weighted pack hikes (40# + pack) on Friday with a 3.25 mile trail hike, 4 miles on Saturday on the trails, and 4.15 today on our paved river trail near where I work. I'll start phase 4 of my Maxworkout routine tomorrow, run Wednesday, lift again Thursday, hike Friday again and run Saturday, repeat. I leave 3 weeks from Wednesday!
It's go time... Just got done with day 38 (of my 60 straight days goal of working out and shooting bow) workout over my lunch (ran a 5K). Took late night hike last night with about 48lbs. Need to get the garage organized soon so I can start piling the gear stash...
These threads talk g about elk hunting are killing me. 13 months to go! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I know your pain. I've been waiting a long time for this trip. I've pretty much made up my mind I'm going to try and go elk hunting every year. The great thing is that my wife wants to go too, so I've got the green light from her.
That helps! I'd be going this year but switched jobs and it wasn't possible. My wife's supportive but I better limit it to every other year for now. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
