For your first bowhunt of the season: -Where & When -What game -Goals? Mine will be Oct 1st here in IL for Whitetails. It will be just an after work evening hunt. I have started a tradition 2 years ago of taking my youngin's with me on opener...it's basically a field edge scout trip with camo, binos, grunt calls, and chairs...the boys were 3 & 2 that first year, will be 5 & 4 this year (1 yr old daughter has one more year to wait). Although I'd love to shoot a deer opening day - I love talking up "Opening Day" with them to get them excited and getting our gear prepared...can't wait til I'm their full-time guide...so I guess my Opener goals are to see my kids have a good time. ...Plus, the very first weekend is always reserved for an Annual bowhunt get together with about 10 buddies...plenty of time to shoot deer then.
I'll be hunting after work on a little piece I have between work and home. I'll be after a doe first and foremost but if the right buck walks by, I won't hesitate.
Opening day here in Texas is October 3rd. My plan for a south wind is to hunt over my foodplot with my longbow. any legal deer is my goal. If wind is not from the south I will be in any one of 4 other stands. Which one depends on wind direction. I will be hunting with the Marquis and I will be after a doe or a buck better than my previous best.
My first hunt of the season will September 14 (hopefully) I will be sitting over some food plot not decided yet. And I will be out to harvest a mature doe!
I'll be hunting near the house on opening day. I have a good nine point I have my eye on. I'll won't be headed up to Oklahoma till the first cold snap......maybe
-Where & When....I have not decided on what property yet but it will be here in Ohio on September 26. -What game....whitetail -Goals?....Pretty simple...just to enjoy mother nature. Any harvest will just be an added bonus.
I will be hunting a public piece of property that I believe no one else will be on. It is a small 30 acre property that most don't even know is public. I is a swamp that I think a lot of deer are on. I do have my own private land that I hunt but I am trying to save some deer on the property and take some from public first if I can. My goal is to harvest a nice doe opening weekend. Just to get some meat on the table to take that "pressure" away. Then I can concentrate on buck hunting. Of course should a nice buck decide to walk my way I would not have a problem taking him.
My opening day will be much like every other year in respect to the property and general company. My opening day will also be very different from every other year in respect to my location on the property and the precise company. Usually I am sitting in one of my normal haunts on our 186 acre cabin property accompanied by 10 or so other guys, scattered over the mountain. I am usually on a wide bench near the top. This year, I have introduced my father in law to archery and I have a ladder stand/hanger combo setup low on the property along a well used doe route. I will carry my bow in hopes of a double, but my primary weapon will be the video camera. I am really looking forward to the hunt.
I have never hunted opening day(Sept 15th). To me it's not worth fighting the mosquitoes, heat, and fooling with a deer in those elements if I was lucky enough to get one.
I dont have any plan as of yet. I wont start to zero-in on stand locations until after our fair week (first full week of August).
I'll be up in Canada after bears on Aug. 15th, after that I wont be hunting until our opener, October 17th here in NY.
I am hoping to catch a big old mature MI buck slipping back to his bedding area, putting an arrow through him and calling it a year on day 1.
I will probably be in the same Place as my brother filming him, But we haven't even hung a stand yet.
Sept 19th! I plan on paddling to a new set on the other side of the lake for a morning doe ambush.... mmmm, fresh tenderloin!
gonna be in two locations depending on the wind, and time of day. i have yet to hang a stand as well. i will for sure be hunting opening morning. already have time off of work!
-Where & When - August 13th, Alaska -What game - Sitka Blacktails -Goals? - Hopefully fill all three buck tags and come back in one piece! For opening season here, I will likely just be filming others on the team, or enjoying the bigger dove shoots. That is unless I have a buck patterned by that point.
Season opens Sept 1 here in De and Sept 15 in Md, both days a Tuesday. Too hot and the season too long to worry about taking off of work and hunting the opener. But I will be out in De after work most every day and in the woods of Md the first Saturday.
If I can get my other 34.5 volunteer hours in, I'll be out on opening morning. (trying to kill a doe first) I have to get up at 3:00am to get out there in time for the morning drawing. I hate that more than the heat and mosquitos.
