My hunting buddy and I headed out thursday morning here in Michigan for the opener like 5 year olds on Christmas morning. We were pretty excited. Once we arrived 30 minutes early and listened to the radio a bit before heading out into the dark woods, we went out seperate ways to our stands for a 3-4 hour sit. My buddy Paul saw 8 does, one of which produced a shot however he didn't take the shot because he was waiting on a larger one to move his way. I was hunting the edge of a bean field, a spike walked through with 2 does not 15 minutes behind. Across the field I noticed a small bachelor party of bucks (3). Two of the bucks were 1.5 year olds and the other a nice 2.5 eight point. The deer movement was crazy and none of them were skiddish, yet. After we got down from the stand we had decided to go to the hospital where I work at and enjoy a free breakfast. On our way in, we were still wearing our camo and the groundskeeper stopped us and told us a yearling had been hit by a car on the opposite side of the grounds not 30 minutes ago, and asked if we wanted to take it home for the meat. After our breakfast we went over pick the deer up and headed home to dress the deer and process it ourselves. After finishing this we went and watched tv and dicussed the beating that the michigan wolverines are going to give the michigan state spartans saturday. Cooked up the yearlings backstraps up for lunch and headed out to the woods for more exciting hunting. He saw 4 does and I had a 4 point walk out into the field. None of the deer produced shots for us. I've got my eye on the eight point anyway. good luck to all this season and wishing you great success!
