As many of you know I have been trying to get my daughter interested in hunting. She already has her own bow and loves to shoot but has no interest in hunting yet. I am not one to push it on her if she doesn't want to but I want to keep coming up with new ways of trying.

At what age were you or your kids up in a tree stand for the first time? I have a blind and have thought of taking her out to sit in it with me but I would like to put her up in a tree. Just not sure at 9 years old she is capable of doing that. Not to mention I don't know how comfortable I would feel having her in a tree should something happen.

Peak do you have a small harness that they wore? I hate to go buy a small one for her to not ever use it.

I started hunting from a tree stand at 13. But my dad was always the extra cautious type.

I am thinking of trying to find an extremely coverd low hanging tree and only put her up 10' or so. I am pretty cautious with 2 daughters. If I had son's I am sure that I would be totally opposite.

T, you might want to check Bass Pro. I think I remember seeing the youth Hunter Safety vest on sale for like $50. Not positive but may be worth checking.

I am trying really hard now to pay off some bills and start putting some money away so no purchases for me for awhile but I will probably try to hit her up also come the start of next season. That is if the offer to me still stands! I say hello to her now everytime I see her so I think she still remembers me. If not I will just have to drag you along!

Both of my boys were in a treestand with me by the age of 3. Big double seater stands and a safety belt around their waste. NP, they loved it. Today at 5 and 7 they ask to go all the time.

That is awsome shed. I haven't purchased a big stand like that yet cause I mainly hunt public land.

FYI, be very discreet, she can be fired for letting family members have the discount that don't live with her. My wife has worked for WM for over 20 years and she's seen several get the axe for it! lp

I've been doing in critters for as long as I can remember. My suggestion is to take your girls out after small game first to get a taste for hunting. Squirrels are great for that.

Also, bowfishing is great for kids who want to shoot critters with the a bow, but don't have much poundage or patience.

Bring 'em out to one of our fun shoots next year. ;)

I totally agree with Christine. I didn't start deer hunting until I was like 9, but my dad took me squirrel hunting a lot around 4-5. It's funny, now I don't care for squirrel hunting at all. But it was a good experience.

I think that I am actually going to throw a stand up in the yard this weekdn and let her go up 10' or so and see how she is. I have a feeling that she will want no part of it.
