I am seriously going to give this type hunting a go with my recurve this season. I have done it in the past with shotgun/rifle and was successful at getting within bow-range. So who likes to sneak thru a creek bottom or edge of a thicket right after a good rain? Have you been successful?

    Just thinkin out loud.:)

I've done it for hogs but have never tried on deer. It is a very effective way to hog hunt.

I've wanted to try it out with standing corn on a windy day.

That's awesome!! Where I hunt is mainly standing corn until late Oct. sometimes early Nov. I might just have to give it a try.

I've never really stalked deer before because I'm too worried that I'll run into a mature buck, be seen, and never see him again. I consider it a pretty risky thing to do, but I guess it could be high risk high reward if you're successful.

I don't consider that stalking, I consider that still hunting.

Never really tried except to/from stand...would have to be exceptionally windy for me to think about it around here...

You are right, to an extent. By slowly moving thru the woods (or whatever), spotting a deer, waiting to see if you need to move, or wait for the deer to move is stalking to me.

It does not matter what you say you are stalking, whether deer, or an elephant. You are trying to position yourself for a shot on an animal. You will probably never see anyone walking/running and shooting an animal at the same time.

Still Hunting gets it's name from being "still", not sneaking thru the woods trying to find and close in on an animal.:D

So if a hunter see's a bedded deer in between corn rows say 40 yards away...sneaks within 8 yards to get a shot...kills it...they didn't stalk the animal?

I'm a little confused by these definitions.

Low percentage and tuff, but it can work and is alot of fun when it does. I shot a young doe this way last year while walking slowly to my stand. The wind was in my face and I just took my time hoping the wind and damp leaves were enough to mask the sound of my movement. Good luck!
