Saturday morning a good buddy shot this fine buck. On Sunday evening his 73 year old father scored on this dandy! They found him this morning 80 yards from where he was shot. This has got to be a weekend this family of hunters will talk of for years to come.
Tough shot angle on that second buck. I'm glad they found him. Not the best shot IMO. I say this for all of the new bowhunters looking at this thread right now. Don't take that shot. Wait for him to turn broadside or let him walk. Quartering to is one of the least desirable shots in all of bow hunting.
I just want to agree for the record if any new hunters are out there...shoot I will not usually take this shot with a gun unless close range...let alone bow. I'm very siked for the hunter though as it is a beauty...but that shot had the chances for disaster.
For sure, and anyone honest can admit and see that. Those who would take offense are the ones that need to read it. As you said it's a great deer!
Backseat drivers are appreciated... and you are right... but at the end of the road dead is dead.... At. 73 after a stroke he did the best he could do..... I don't care what anyone thinks about it anyway.... How many of you have shot at a deer with buck fever bearing down on you... made a bad shot and lost your buck??? Crap happens... what decisions you make after the shot is what counts....
You have never ever taken an iffy shot? Arm chair biggots run rampant in the USA.. Would you agree? Can I get an ahmen brother???
Brother no offense was ever meant to you or the gentleman who shot the awesome buck. It must be stated for those whom may see this and think it's a good shot choice. If you knew me personally or Cablebob (I can only judge based on this site) you would know no offense was meant. To answer your question, no I have not. Have I made great shots every time, nope, but I've only taken shots with high percentage angles. That's not a brag, that's just answering your question..and in an effort to keep this thread void of arguments and change the topic from congratulating the hunters on the fine deer I'll hold my tongue any further beyond saying again; congratulations to both hunters, despite the second one not being a shot choice I would tell anyone to take and I'm thankful like you said it was recovered! Blessings.
Both people stated that they were only trying to help the new people reading these posts. I know one of my good friends from HS is a new hunter and has joined this site to learn. Both of them congratulated you on the deer. The lesson to be learned is that more often than not, that is not an ideal placement because there is little room for error. A new hunter needs to know this. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk www.skyangler.com
What?? So you don't care what anyone thinks yet you go on to call people names. You agree it was a poor shot choice but then go on to say that what you do after the shot matters more that the shot itself. My statements weren't opinion, they were fact. I was not being negative or talking out of turn. This site is used by seasoned and novice hunters. It is our jobs as stewards of the sport to educated people. If I were there helping that fellow hunter drag that great deer out. I would have given him a high-five on a great harvest, then I would have looked down and asked him what he was thinking! While pointing at the arrow. With the countless numbers of "Can't find my deer" threads every year, when I see an opportunity to educate it is my obligation to do so. I don't care if you've hunted 75 years or 7 days. That shot is one that shouldn't be taken while bowhunting. Again, I'm glad they found him. He is a wonderful deer.
Nod. . Still agree.. my post was about family and the traditions of hunting... never was meant to be an example of perfect hunting principles and to give folks idea of how to properly kill a deer.
