Just started hunting again this year after almost a 15 year hiatus for various reasons. This however is my first ever season hunting with a bow(Previous member of the Orange Army.) I was out Friday in a stand on my sisters property. At about 10:30AM I spotted 2 deer (8 pt and doe) coming up over a ridge about 70 yds away. I waited patiently as they got closer just minding their own business not even recognizing I was there. They got to 30 yds and the 8 point was standing broadside to me. I drew back and had him sighted in. As luck would have it my arrow glanced off a small branch that was hanging at about 20 yds. I honestly didn't even realize it was there until I made the shot. It deflected the arrow just enough I missed low and the both took off. I can tell you though the rush of adrenaline as both started to come into range is almost like nothing I have ever experienced. The knee and leg shaking are the 2 things I remember most. Everything else was just a blur. Now I know that I need to calm myself, try to slow my breathing, and just go through everything I have practiced. I have read on here many times as well, shooting at a foam target all summer is no substitute for the real thing. That is so true. What an incredible hunt, nothing can beat the feeling of watching them getting closer and closer and you start to prepare for a shot. I am hooked for life. WOW!
I had a similar situation with a doe this year and yes, it is an adrenaline rush. That is what it's all about. Funny how the blod gets flowing when you are so much closer.
