Two days after our very first predator catch ever -- that beautiful gray fox I posted about -- we crested the rise once again to see this awesome sight!

Just another one of God's beautiful creatures!

A possum got into our next set that I had high hopes for, and our third stop yielded this beauty! My boy's enjoying the snarling we were getting, and is giving her a taste right back. :)

Back at home, the little one got to enjoy the day's catch as well.

We're having a blast, and I'm pretty sure I've got a new trapper hooked for life! I think my son is, too! ;)

    Congrats Greg.

I could only imagine the thrill it must have been to walk up on that Bobcat.

Looks like you've figured out this whole trapping thing.

Yeah ya do, you got me hooked as well!!!!! Greg that is so cool! I wish I was already set up for this season! Looks like your taxidermy bill just went up, you gotta get both of those beauties mounted! The fox's coat id like perfect! Be kinda cool to have it mounted just the way it is in the top photo, like Elvis he's "caught in a trap".

What kinda trap are you using??? I'm reading good things about the MB 650's for Coyotes and Fox, as well as Bobcats! Did you use the pole to dispatch the cat???

    Thats AWESOME bro!!!!!!!!!!!

Wow! Some great animals already! The bobcat was a big surprise. I didn't expect to see you have one of those in there. Do you see many of those around your place? Congrats on your success and including the little guys!

Thanks, guys... appreciate all the nice comments!

Jim, our taxidermist friend bought the red for $40 again... so that's $80 for two fox, LOL! Talk about getting spoiled in a hurry... I don't plan on that happening too often. Of course, he made it right back when he talked me into getting the cat mounted (of course, he didn't have to say too much; I was 99% sure I wanted to anyway before I made it to his shop this morning -- I've just ALWAYS had a thing for bobcats!).

I think both red and grays brought an average of $16 put up at the first Missouri State fur auction last weekend for a more realistic price.

He did say if I catch this female cat's running buddy he'd buy him off me too, and I'm thinking he'd pay more than $40 for a big tom, so that'll help offset the cost of her.

Matt, yeah we've got an ample supply of cats in Missouri. I mean, we're not teeming with them or anything but they're definitely not on any endangered list or anything. If I could catch 10 a day every day, it'd be ok. If fur prices were what they were last year, that'd be pretty cool, too -- I could quit my job. :D

Joe, I'm running Bridger #2's, four-coiled with base plates and center D-rings as well as jaw lams... After a lot of research, it seemed like the best single trap for my target animals: coyotes, fox and cats -- though admittedly right now I'm really targeting gray fox and cats moreso than anything (just by the type of set I'm building). I ALMOST walked all the way back to the house to get my catch pole, but decided to just pop her with the .22. I was already there, so... Next year when we're really doing more than just out behind the house, I'll have the pole with me all the time.

Yeah Mike, seeing the cat lying there was almost surreal... you've just got to understand how much cats turn my crank! I think they're absolutely the coolest creatures in the woods. I had to do all sort of scheduling today to make sure I could get back and remake the set I caught her in (as well as the other two we had catches in) because it's breeding season right now, and with her scent all over that set area I've got high hopes for the next couple days.

Wow, that's pretty cool! I'm excited for you guys, this makes me want to get back into it again. Now you gotta get yourself a yote.

So are you doing your own skinning yet, or is the taxidermist doing it for you?

Matt, we didn't have to do anything with the red or the gray since our taxi bought them to mount and sell. I did skin out the two possums we've caught so far... and we're mounting the first cat you see up above. I say "first" because there's a new thread up now! :D
