Just curious........ if you could only hunt 5 consecutive days out of the season which dates would you pick and why?
5 days when the bucks are done seeking does and now chasing. I tend to see the most activity during this time frame in the rut. Not sure exactly when that would be this year, I would pry take Nov 10th-15th here in MI.
I am curious to see if anyone would say October 10th-17th... For me it would have to be October 30th-November 5th. I see more action during those times than any other.
Thanksgiving with two days before and two days after, killed two of my buck on thanksgiving, and 5 of the 7 in November.
If I can't see a forecast 1st, then Nov. 5-10 without a doubt. The weather always plays a big role in daytime buck movement during the rut, but in my experience, on average, these are the best dates for mature bucks to be on their feet all day.
I'll take the last five days leading up to modern gun season here in KY. Doesn't matter the exact dates, gun season = rut for KY...and action continues to build until the orange army arrives. The 5 days leading up to their arrival have proven to show me the most action and mature buck sightings in the past. Hope this year proves no different. So for 2009, I'll choose Nov 9-13!
This is my first year ever hunting deer - but I intend to primarily hunt Quantico... Got my pass and such squared away last week, scored a 1:50 map - ready to go. Just need time to get out now. Spoke to one of the Marines at Range Control last week and he pointed out some of the areas he covers behind TBS. Hoping to get out this week since I am TAD next week - eating away at the archery season...
I love Halloween but if I had to pick 5 consective days on what I've witnessed in my near 30 years of bowhunting, it would be 10-14th. (Birthday and next 4 days.)
