Hoyt Protec 3000. Never been dry fired and I have kept strings up to date. I actually think something went wrong last season because I started having trouble with my tune all of a sudden.

Turns out... not only were the spacers gone but the cam bearings are also missing. What happened when? What caused what? IDK... hopefully Hoyt's lifetime warranty will cover at least part of the repair cost.

If your bow has been dry fired 4 times... you definitely need to have it checked by a pro. Things can be cracked that you may not be able to detect without disaasembling the cams. I saw it first hand... word... my expensive lesson offered for free.

I called the Hoyt dealer... He says my bow won't be ready for at least another week. Season opens tomorrow. He said he doubts Hoyt makes the bearings for my Cams anymore ... I am waving the flag on that... it's a 2004 Protec w/ Cam1/2. I will be calling Hoyt Customer Service tomorrow. At either rate... Looks like I am going to be missing the first week; if not more. I took the bow in to this guy three times in the past couple months because it was doing some weird stuff before the buss strings turned loose and he didn't catch it. Not digging the situation right now but its where I am. Fortunately we can bowhunt through Jan 31 and I have some good looking new property to hunt.

Called Hoyt directly... Yes... baloney about having to make bearings. That's what I thought! Hoyt said turnaround should 4-5 days unless he had to send the cams in to get them pressed for him. I would think an authorized tech could press bearings out and in. I will be finding a new Hoyt guy after all this.

The pro at my shop has a cxr cam bushing on order for my 2009 Alphamax. I noticed the problem (noise) while palm tapping the upper limb. I mentioned your story, and said that I was worried about the bow and being able to hunt last weekend. he told me it was OK to hunt and that he would replace the bushing as soon as it arrives.

It's been a week now, and I'll call in when they open at 1000 to see what's up. Will let you know how it goes.

Bummer you won't make the opener....I guess it's time to stop laughing at all the guys who maintain a "back up" bow.

Although it sounds like this guy is blowing smoke, I wouldn't blame him for not catching a cable the blew.

Called the Hoyt guy again... he said they had to send the cams etc... to get them repaired because he didn't have the needed bearing press. That explains a lot really... bottom line... at least another week.

The high point is the bow will basically be new when I get it back... considering going traditional but now is probably not the best time to switch.

    Update...
Breaking out the recurve and am hitting 3-4 inch groups out to 25 yards. Not quite consistent enough yet but am getting there quickly. Having problems with trajectory adjustments past 20 or when I shoot from my knees. May try hunting it this weekend while I wait on my Hoyt. Of course I will hunt from the ground and limit myself to 15 yards or so for starters.

Now... What is better; heavy and slow 2219s with feathers or my 9.2 gpi carbons with feathers? I don't think I am getting much over about 180 fps with the 2219s but they sure knock the block around pretty good with about a foot of penetration. I think a fully dressed 2219 comes in around 650 grains or so.

Finally got the call last night that my bow is ready. I don't want to go into all the details but suffice it to say... either the dealer or Hoyt has been less than truthful. After about three calls to Hoyt myself, they finally have it repaired. I don't know what is true or not true but I will definitely not be dealing with the local guy again after this. I will drive to Birmingham if I have to. Looking forward to shooting it and getting it re-tuned. and retying all the stuff this guy will have put back on my string that will come loose if I don't go ahead and re-tie it myself. Been there time and again with him. He's the same guy that tells his customers to move their sights when their broadheads don't hit the same as their field tips. I have heard him say thatto others and he has told me that... but he's the guy with the "authorized dealer" title and other shops won't touch the Hoyt bows.

Anyway looking forward to getting out there soon with a positive tude even though my shoulder was dislocated again last weekend and is killing me. (32 year old football injury) Weird season definitely, hoping for something good to happen quickly next week when I get to go finally.

There is a great shop down here in Dothan. Andy is a Mathews dealer but does not push you on them like some do. In fact, he talked me out of getting a Helim over my Bowtech Assassin. That's probably an hour and a half drive for you though. I have the new Creed on order with him though, he let me shoot it like 10 minutes after he opened the box and we both like the bow.

Good to hear your finally getting it back...thanks for the heads up on InnerX - Kyle over there bent over backwards trying to figure out my bows needs and hooked me up good...dang label on the bow was undecipherable and the bow is kind of rare(protec xt3000 with longer draw) and older so it took 3 days to find what we needed for info. Really glad I didn't have your issues with the cams or I might not have it(or myself) ready for late season even - been hunting with the Xbow and it's only legal to use through the end of firearms season so would have been screwed for my favorite time to hunt. Good Luck for the remainder of your season now!

I think I can probably tough through it... I felt it pop putting the swimming pool cover on of all things. Its been an on again off again issue but is worse this time... maybe getting into rotator cuff tissues. I don't have a cross bow but they are legal here.

Thanks, sharing the good stuff only... doesn't give us a very realistic view. I screwed up and I hope others learn from my mistakes and have a successful season.
