While watching the National Championship game last night I heard the announcers agree that Jordan Shipley was, and I paraphrase, "going to have a solid NFL career and be like a Wes Welker...." While Wes Welker went undrafted out of Texas Tech, Jordan Shipley is looking to be a 2nd to 3rd round draft pick. Jordan is 3 inches taller than Wes and also runs the 40 yard dash 2 tenths of a second faster than Welker at 4.45. Man there has to be around 200 WR's in the NFL, I just wonder why they compared Jordan Shipley and Wes Welker. Do you guys that watch a lot of college ball think they compared the two because they are similar receivers or was Wes Welker just someone they thought up on the spot?
I actually think Jordan is built and runs a little more like the guy on the left of this photo than on the right......
You know what, Jermarcus Russell should come take over the Philadelphia Eagles from Donovan McNabb because their playing styles are very similiar you know. Oh yeah, I bet Pat White from the Dolphins is going to be a very similar QB to Donovan McNabb as well. What is crazy is that all the above mentioned QB's play just like Warren Moon!
While I get the jist of the thread, I also think Welker does not get the respect he deserves. He leads the league in receptions, and is a top 5 receiver. Those DA's last night simply meant a white guy going over the middle. Shipley should pray he has half the career of Welker. I think a better comparison would have been Riley Skinner from Florida, not an all pro.
Exaclty...they made a comparison based on slot receivers and the fact they are both white. Coly is the next Peyton, they both take the snap and they are both white...hey better yet, josh freeman is the next Warren Moon.
Both are slot guys, both are quick but not fast without huge vertical leaps. They have great hands and can catch alot of passes. Especially opposite a Randy Moss, Andre Johnson or Larry Fitzgerald type of reciever. I think he'll have a solid career. He's not out to dazzle, just perform.
If he ever plays again...his knee injury is terrible from what ive heard. He needs to do ALOT of make the hall of fame. Yes the three straight 100 catch seasons are great, but his career numbers are this: 442 receptions for 4809 yards and 16 touchdowns. And he's 29. He needs 4-5 more seasons like this one to have a chance. (interesting stat, Randy Moss almost AVERAGES (12.3) more touchdowns a season then Welker has in his 6 year career (16))
