I was amazed at the prices people are paying for ammo. Why on earth are people stocking up on ammo at these prices? Bricks of 22 cal were $60 and the store can't keep them in stock! Maybe I'm naive, but I don't understand the ammo run right now.

I know right? I remember going to a gun show after Obama was first elected and seein guys wheelin out dollies stacked with ammo. I didnt get it then either. Moreover I think it is a lil scary so many people would rely soley on their bullets/guns for protection/survival should it come down to it. I dont care how many rds ya have.. eventually yer gonna run out.

It feels like half the country is preparing for Doomsday or something?

I won't pay ridiculous prices for ammo....I can wait

    I haven't bought any .22lr, 270 WSM or any for my 12ga. I have bought some .17hmr and about 560 rounds of .223. I haven't overpay'd like a lot of these people have. $10.75 for 50 Hornady Vmax .17hmr and $7.75 for 20 rounds fo PMC .223.

There have been a lot of new guns sold in the last 6 weeks, which would lead to a lot of ammo being purchased as well. That would be part of the equation. I am part of that. I just bought the .223 and need ammo for it. As ammo starts to get more scarce, more and more people feed the frenzy and buy up what they can find. We have created our own demand that is way greater than the supply.
